This lesson will be a follow up from our lesson on the Solar System.
Students will be using research skills to help them find the information in order to make their comic.
Different assessments will be planned for students who do not have internet access outside the home. All
students will be allowed to work in class.
Procedures:
Lesson will take 2-3 days, depending on availability of computers. Approx. 30-45 minutes per lesson.
Students will be broken into groups of four (two planets each) and given handouts and procedures; this
lesson will be a self-taught lesson in which they will be given all material needed to complete assignment.
Each student has
Day One:
After material has been handed out and explained, students will be given access to the internet. At this
point they will search the websites provided to help them answer the questions on their handout.
Day Two:
Students will create a comic (One slide per student). Each group will then select four planets they found
the most interesting and create a comic with the fun fact they liked the most.
Day Three:
Students will present to the class their comics.
This project allows for students with different learning methods to learn. A visual student can watch the videos
provided by Khan Academy and have a better understanding rather than learning by the book. Social students
can learn by sharing or receiving information from other students.
Students must have a positive attitude when it comes to using technology. Since this is a group work, students
must rotate the computer and allow everyone to have a turn. If two student research, two students will place
information on paper and will switch after the first twenty mins.. Each student will be allowed to create their own
comic (four slides, one each.)
Closure:
For closure of this lesson, students will have knowledge of the different components of the planets. They
will have understanding that each planet is different. This lesson can be closed out by watching footage
of the Neil Armstrongs moon landing.

MODIFICATIONS:
Students that find it hard to participate can do this on their project on their own.
A day can be added if students are not finished with their work.
If students are ready for enriched activities, a model of the solar system can be created for individual points.
