AIMS
By the end of the lesson the S will be able to:
- narrate past events ( past continuous)
- express interrupted past actions ( simple past vs. past continuous)

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
- some students might need further help and extra indications in solving the tasks and they may
also need some of these indications to be given in Romanian;
-some students might feel nervous and reluctant to participate in the activity, so they may need
more encouragement.

Warm Up
Aim:
-to create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere
Procedure: -T greets the Ss and ask about their mood. T checks homework.
Timing:5 min

Activity 1: Lead-in
Aim:
-to activate students interest on the lesson;
- to revise past simple form of irregular verbs
Procedure: T asks S to say the past form of a verb she says. Throws a ball toward a s. The S
must say the past form of the verb. The S throws the ball to another S saying the infinitive form
of a different verb. The game continuous until the teacher stops it.
T announces the title and the objectives of the lesson
Timing: 5 min.

Activity 2: Presentation & Practice


Aim:
- -to focus students attention on the theme of the text
-to prepare students for the next stage of the lesson
Procedure: T lets S to read the words in the box. T helps them with the translation or additional
explanations, if necessary.
T asks S to use some of the words in the box in sentences of their own, to make sure they have
understood the meaning of the words correctly. T asks S to insert the right word in each blank in
the exercise from page. . S write the exercise on their notebooks. T checks the answers
and corrects if necessary.
Timing:10 min
Interaction: T-S, S-T individual work

Activity 3: Practice
Aim:
-to develop S reading skills & to monitor understanding of the text
Procedure: T asks S to go quickly through the text and to say which is the best title for what
they have read. ( Danger in space)
T gives to S some additional information about this real event. (appendix 1)
T asks S to read the text again more carefully. T asks S to match the notes that are on the left of
the page to the information in the box on the right. ( a-2, b-6, c-5, d-3, e-7, f-4, g-1)
Timing:13 min
Interaction: T-S, S-T, individual work

Activity 4: Practice& Production


Aim:
- to extract information from a text
- to consolidate information
Procedure: T lets S read the sentences in the box and answer the questions.(a. the travelling b-
the explosion) T asks S to read the explanation and the example in the Language Focus box. T
asks S to check students understanding. T explains to the S that a past action in progress
( travelling) was interrupted by another shorter one ( the explosion).
T gives to S a handout to practice Past Continuous and Past Simple.( appendix 2)
Timing: 10 min
