Dear Malcolm,

My name is Jesse C. Rodgers III and I was born in Sanford, which is centered in the middle of
North Carolina. I am often considered deliberate and to the point; wasting time is one of the
worst vices. I am obsessed with philosophy, and I use philosophy to better understand myself
and others; the actions of other people generally confuse me particularly in relation to how
people treat others. People tend to step on others to get what they want, but cry foul when others
do the same. I have always questioned the contradicting idea that its fine when I do it but
wrong when they do. If there is one thing I hate it is hypocrites, they are worst of all people
because they deceive others. In general, the world would be a far better place if everyone came
clean and spoke from the heart revealing how they truly felt, since, typically, they are not the
only ones who feel as they do.
In my spare time, I study economics because I enjoy the line of reasoning accompanied by
economic thought. As a child, I struggled to understand the world in a practical manner. I found
economics useful as a tool to understand why adults, or rather people, in general, make life
decisions. Trade-offs, incentives, and opportunity cost became the cornerstone of my personal
paradigm. My current obsession within economics deals with the morality of capitalism. Most
economists agree that capitalism is the most efficient economic system, but the most moral- there
is no consensus.
As far as games or hobbies are concerned, chess is my favorite game since chess utilizes
strategy, game theory and a healthy dose of intuition. Chess also brings me closer to my brother,
for we discuss chess theory and practice rigorously together. My brother, Sam, is an aggressive
player, he also is a driven person constantly seeking new obstacles to overcome. My goals
regarding chess is to become a master by qualifying in a national chess tournament.
I come off as a loner, thus you probably will not hear me speak to any of my classmates outside
of a class discussion. As mentioned earlier philosophies intrigue me. One such philosophy is that
of the M.G.T.O.W man. MGTOW stands for men going their own way. MGTOW is a
philosophy that relies on the idea that ones own desires and wants should be the aim and
aspiration of each man. MGTOW at its highest-level advocates for the isolation of the individual,
and his concealment from the state, also known as ghosting. I am quiet as to focus on my own
thoughts and avoid the influence of others when coming to my own opinions and ideas.
I am looking forward to your class. Your class format is interesting and I honestly believe it will
help me develop my writing and thinking skills. I like to write because it allows me to explain
my ideas more completely. I am a thorough person and occasionally write to much on
assignment because I believe every possible point should be reviewed and considered.
Sincerely,
Jesse C. Rodgers III
