To Whom It May Concern,

I would like to recommend Hayden Koller as a teacher who inspires student curiosity, is thoughtful in his lesson planning,
and builds positive relationships with students. Mr. Koller has spent the last seven weeks as a student teacher in my
classroom, teaching eighth grade science and mathematics at Leonard Middle School in Old Town, Maine.

Mr. Koller inspires student curiosity by asking good questions, facilitating discussion, and honoring the natural curiosity
of students.

Mr. Koller was placed with me for his second placement after spending his first seven weeks at Old Town High School.
When we first met, Mr. Koller expressed that one of his goals was to have some flexibility in curriculum planning to
design authentic and engaging lessons that tapped into the curiosity and questions of students rather than being committed
to content being offered by a single resource. He had come to the right classroom. Although we have a set of materials and
a resource that we use for 8th grade science, Mr. Koller had many opportunities to augment the curriculum. A natural at
facilitating engaging discussions and latching onto student curiosity, Mr. Koller is adept at digging into student
understandings and misconceptions and showed this by devising classroom experiences that engaged students in
meaningful learning experiences.

Mr. Koller is thoughtful in the planning and implementation of lessons.

Mr. Koller designs lessons and activities that are directly related to student questions and that address misconceptions that
he identifies through discussion, questioning, and assessment. During his teaching, Mr. Koller maintains momentum as
transitions are made from one activity to the next and his classes flow with ease. In addition to planning effective lessons,
he routinely asks students to explain their thinking and facilitates collaborative and individual activities that generate
enduring understandings.

Mr. Koller builds positive relationships with students.

Students respect Mr. Koller, feel supported by him, and are receptive to his style of teaching. From the very first day in his
placement with me, Mr. Koller spent time getting to know students and was quick to offer assistance to small groups and
individuals that needed more support. He routinely offered study group support to students needing math or science
intervention and was also adept at recognizing when students needed enrichment opportunities. At all times, Mr. Koller
makes himself available to students in need of support and those seeking a deeper understanding of the concepts being
taught. When working with these students, he offers his full attention and appropriately meets students at their level of
understanding.

Mr. Koller has a firm grasp on science and math content at the 8 th grade level and beyond and I am confident that he can
be successful in a middle school or high school science teaching position. Along with a strong content background, he is
also able to deliver the content to students at their level with competence in teaching methodology and effective planning.

It is with these strong qualities in mind that I recommend Hayden Koller for a teaching position at your school. Please feel
free to contact me if you have any questions at all.
