COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF 1D MODELS FOR COMPUTING THE PHREATIC LINE IN A ROCKFILL DAM
SUBJECTED TO THROUGHFLOW
ABSTRACT The flow of water through a rockfill dam model has been analysed using a 1D model in order to obtain the
phreatic line according to various resistance formulae given by various authors. The deviations of these lines from their
mean value range between +9% and -5%. On the other hand, measured phreatic lines are 10-15% above this mean
theoretical line, which could be due, among other factors, to the measurement of porosity as a sensitive parameter, or to the
wall effect. More tests are been performed in order to obtain clear conclusions.
