1. Apply the understanding of addition.
2. Developing the understanding of whole number relationships.

2. Learning Objectives (Goals) and Outcomes

The lessons objectives (goals) and learning outcomes appropriate for meeting curricular and student needs
Students will be able to understand adding, and be able to identify whole numbers.

3. Assessment (type[s] of assessment used throughout the lesson)

Assessment(s) before, during, and after the lesson
Before the lesson I will have a short worksheet that is not for a grade to show them what we will be learning
in this lesson and to see their knowledge of the lesson before we begin.
During the lesson I will have worksheets to hand out and ask questions to see who is keeping up and getting
comfortable with the lesson at hand.
After the lesson I will have packets, tests, or a final worksheet to test their understanding of the material we
covered in the lesson. For the special learners I will be available to read the test to them, have a fewer
questions, or whatever needs necessary.
4. Lesson Structure and Procedures Sequence of events of the lesson elements.
(The before, during, and after the lesson, e.g., Engagement/Opening, Procedures, Guided Practice,
Conclusion)

1. Greet students by shaking hands. (3 minutes)

2. Introduce the lesson (Adding) and explain adding means to put something altogether to get a bigger
number then we started with.(5 minutes)
3. Show a short video of adding on youtube then do about ten problems on the board before having
them start so they can get a brief understanding.(10 minutes)
4. Begin the actual lesson with small numbers using objects to add together. Ex: apples, balls, crayons,
ect. (20 minutes)
5. Explain the game plan for tomorrow of adding 1s and 2s.

5. Instructional Strategies
Teacher approach to helping students achieve the learning objectives (goals) and meet their needs
Have multiple videos throughout the lesson to help see others do as they are doing and to help
keep them focused without getting bored only hearing me talk.
I will be walking around the room answering any questions if they want me to do it on the board
or help them privately.
I also will be willing to do similar problems to one they are struggling with and be available
before school, during recess, and after school for anyone who feels they need extra help on any
question or the lesson as a whole.
6. Learning Activities
Opportunities provided for students to develop knowledge and skills of the learning objectives (goals)
Beginning worksheets to test knowledge before the lesson.

9. Differentiation/Accommodations/Modifications/Increase in Rigor
To help meet the needs of all learners, learning differences, cultural and language differences, etc.
For my twice exceptional student who is dyslexic I will give verbal tests and have them talk more throughout
the class to me so that I am sure he understands the problems at hand.
For my exceptional learner(s) I will be sure to give him/her more problems once he/she has finished the
assigned work so that he/she can keep busy and stop others from asking him/her for help or answers. If
needed I am willing to increase his/her work difficulty to where it makes him/her think and work on
completing it rather than quickly going through it all.
For my ethnic diverse learner I will be sure to give all assigned work in her preferred language which is
Chinese. When I have her to answer questions out loud I will have her use google translate on my tablet or
work the problem out on the board instead of having to talk.
10. Classroom Management
Strategies consistent with the learning needs of the lesson that also meet student behavior needs to help
keep students on task and actively engaged
Rules:
1. Listen and follow directions given by me or any school staff.
2. Raise your hand to speak or get up.
3. Be nice to classmate and teachers.
4. No touching classmates or others belongings.
Consequences:
1. Verbal Warning
2. 5 minutes of recess time.
3. Letter home to get signed and returned the next day.
Rewards:
1. Not getting in trouble all day will get you two small pieces of candy.
2. Being first in line all day.
3. No homework one night.
Documentation:
Book with each student listed, what happened, when it happened, and what I did. At the end of the year it
will be reviewed with parents.
11. Extensions
Activities for early finishers that extend students understanding of and thinking about the learning
objectives (goals) by applying their new knowledge in a different way
Assign extra problems or a fun worksheet for those who complete work early.
For those who finish tests early I will give out worksheets to do with the next lesson to see what they know
and how hard it is for them.
12. Follow-up to Todays Lesson
Quick activity for review or building on todays learning that will deepen student understanding and
interconnect concepts (may be incorporated tomorrow or throughout the unit)
I would verbally go over what we learned today and ask if there were any questions.
I would also ask how students felt towards the lesson and what they liked and did not like.
I would then describe the field trip to the St. Louis Science Museum to discover the math exhibit
we will be going on next week.
