WORKSHOP #1
OBJECTIVE
Familiarize with the Patran graphic interface by generating a mesh, applying
properties to that mesh, and applying forces and boundary conditions.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
Generate the mesh of a truss-like structure using nodes. The location of the nodes
from the origin are as follows:

Node ID Coord 1 Value Coord 2 Value Coord 3 Value

1 0 0 0
2 144 72 0
3 192 144 0
4 288 144 0
5 384 0 0
6 432 72 0
7 576 0 0

The elements should be 1D bar type elements with the following material applied

E: 1.76 106 psi

v:0.3
The truss is pinned at node 1 and supported by a roller at node 2.
Equal forces F1 and F2 are applied at nodes 2, 4 and 6 with the values
<0., -1500., 0.> and <-1300., 0., 0.>, respectively.

WORKSHOP #2
OBJECTIVE
Using a surface geometry, create a mesh with quad elements to simulate a cantilever
plate with a load applied an its free end, and finally obtain a maximum displacement value.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
Using a surface geometry, apply a 2D, shell type, quad-element meshing to simulate a thin
plate.

The surface geometry contains the plate dimensions and is to be created along a plane.

Dimension: 5 X 1

Elements should be 2D shell type elements with Aluminum propertied applied to them
Material: Aluminum
E: 1.76 106
v: 0.3

A force <0,-8,,> is to be applied at a single node of the end, at the edge, and all 6
degrees of freedom of the nodes at the other end will have no displacement.

WORKSHOP #3
OBJECTIVE
Obtain the maximum deflection of a simply supported sheet with loads applied by
using curve geometry and applying meshing directly to the curves.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
A sheet is to be drawn using 24 in long curves.

Dimension: 120 X 48

There must be Bar2 elements applied to each curve, having three nodes per curve. The
property set applied to the mesh should be a Beam with Aluminum properties

Material: Aluminum
E: 1.76 106
v: 0.3
Respectively, Two loads <0., 0., -150.> are applied to nodes 3 and 8, two other loads
<0., 0., -960.> are applied to nodes 12 and 27, and two additional loads <0., -100.,
-100.> are applied to nodes 12 and 27 again.

WORKSHOP #4
OBJECTIVE
Individually generate a solid, mesh it, and apply loads to it to obtain vertical
displacement results, interpret them and compare them to analytically obtained results.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
A square beam is simply supported by a pin on the left side and a roller on the right side. A
200 lb force is transversely exerted as shown. Obtain the maximum displacement of the
beam through FEA and analytical methods.

Dimension: 2 X 2 X10
Material: Steel
E: 30 106 psi
: 0.3
Load: 200 lbs.
The mesh is made from a solid geometry. The mesh is applied by selecting a solid,
leaving the default parameters. The force is applied at the three center nodes and the
bottom nodes at the edges simulate the supports.
