Nicholas Jenkins Reflection on Mark Bignells Interview

Upon listening to the Mark Bignell workplace interview I gained a deeper

understanding and further insight into the career path and options that studying
at the Griffith business school offers. Mark Bignell speaks extensively on his vast
experience which assured his position as a business owner, hearing this enabled
me to come to an understanding of the value and importance in participating in
as many curricular and c-curricular activities as is feasible. Doing so would
enable me to set myself in good stead for internships and further experiences in
the field which would then promote me higher and higher in my career path, as
Marks experiences did for him. Most importantly Mark Bignells interview
granted me an insight into the workplace environment that I desire to be
involved with post-graduation, a fuller understanding of the roles and
responsibilities that I will be tasked with in his line of work. The challenges and
tasks that Mark outlined in his interview has solidified my understanding of the
role of managers, CEOs and other managerial positions, with this affirmation of
knowledge I am now able to proceed through my studies with a clear goal in
place. This knowledge with be essential to me as I continue through my studies
as it will help me to focus upon relevant skills and activities in which to
participate to further my skills and understanding the managerial roles I desire to
be a part of. Mark, towards the back end of the interview, stated that the current
work he does relates largely to the studies in in university. Taking this aboard the
importance of the skills and knowledge learnt at university is doubled for me
personally as I now can see a correlation between study and result in the
workforce. With these deeper understanding of my future career path and
current study I am able to apply myself to my studies as well as involving myself
in new and fulfilling experiences to further my understanding of the job positions
I endeavour to undertake. The most important part of the interview I think is
when Mark mentioned that the most transferable and useful skills to have are
communication and people skills. I have never really been overly charismatic,
but have seen the use of such skills in the workforce, I aspire to work on these
skills to be able to effectively use the knowledge and understanding that I have
acquired through my studies to then achieve the desired outcome of being in an
a managerial role in the workforce. I can achieve this by enrolling in workshops
to help with oral speaking and presenting as well as becoming more social in my
classes with my classmates, this will help with both those skills which will edge
me closer and closer to my end goal. Marks insight into the managers role has
given me a deeper understanding of the workforce and its responsibilities and
requirements and helped me to set goals throughout my studies to achieve those
managerial positions.
