Assessment tools: Students will create a Venn diagram that will describe the
similarities and differences between the seasonal weather between Texas and
Indiana
Assessment Criteria: Students will list three similarities and differences between the
seasonal weather between Texas and Indiana. It is expected that 75% of the
students will receive 75% or higher.
Objective(s):
Students will be able to describe the differences and similarities in the seasons of Indiana
and Texas.
Academic Standards:
3.ESS.1 Obtain and combine information to determine seasonal weather patterns across the
different regions of the United States.

Anticipatory Set:
Show pictures depicting the four seasons in both Indiana
Ask students what the pictures are depicting
Procedures (model; instruct; samples; guided & independent practice; monitor progress,
etc.):
Explain to the students that we will be learning about the weather patterns in both
Indiana and Texas
Show and discuss the weather patterns of the two states using visuals
Create a Venn diagram that compares and contrast Indiana's and Texas's seasons
Model an example of a difference and similarity between Texas and Indiana (Texas's
winter is warmer than Indiana's)
Students will assist the Teacher in describing additional differences and similarities
Students will independently create their own Venn diagram listing three similarities
and differences, different from the board
