Rationale:
My Curriculum map/ panning guide follows along with the state
standards in the same way that they are listed on the website. The
reason for this is because it is a history class and follows a timeline
itself. When looking at the standards I didnt think there was a reason
to mix them up or put history out of order. What I thought was very key
was that I have the lessons of how to write like a historian and use
primary and secondary sources early in the year to help students with
papers that they may have to type in other classes. As for my power
standards I believe the standard for primary and secondary sources
can constantly be used in real life as well as other subjects in school.
The fourth standard is also important so that the students need to
construct a well-supported argument like they would learn to do in L.A.
The eighth standard supports ideas of how our country and other
countries came to be since the ideas were formed from the
enlightenment period. The rest of my power standards focus on major
historical events like WWII as well as events that have influence on our
culture and where our country is going in the current world. by
focusing on these power standards I feel my students will be well
equipped to understand how the country got to where it is and why we
do the things we do. As for time devoted to each standard I feel it was
necessary to give at least five days to each portion to be able to cover
all material properly and give students time to ask questions about
something that confused them. I wanted to focus more time for larger
scale events like the world wars because of the amount of content that
they have within them. My assessments I placed at what I thought was
the end of major units as well as where the students might need to be
specifically analyzed (standards 1-4).
