Multi-Genre Reflection

My audience of my multi-genre project are the multiple companies that

produce middle and high school history books, companies such as Houghton

Mifflin, Prentice Hall and Glencoe. With these companies in my presentation I

will explain to them why there should be more material on how the industrial

revolutions of the 20th century affected the outcome and death tolls of the

world wars. In my powerpoint I am going to use a survey that I am doing on

friday asking 50 college students how they think this correlation of industry

and warfare was taught in their middle and high school history books. I will

include the statistics of this survey on the powerpoint as well as the handout

I will give the attendees of my presentations as a physical document for

them to hold and follow along. Another way I can use this survey is to use

the survey to possibly aim at my audiences emotions and make them see

how many people believe their textbooks are up to par or not. My second

source I will use will be my interview with my professor Dr. Mark Wilson, who

has a doctorate in industrial history. I will use his quotes and knowledge to

express how important this correlation is in history, not just american history

either, world history as well. His professional knowledge could even be used

in the textbooks if the companies agree with me and put it Dr. Wilsons
research and notes. With Dr. Wilsons information and certification he proves

as a very useful primary source, and with his status I feel I can impress my

audience and that might help me influence their decision. I chose these

genres as they are the best for giving my point to my audience for easy

viewing. I will be giving out my handouts as I begin my presentation and

guiding my audience through the handouts as the presentation progresses. I

will be presenting so I will be using visual and auditory modes of

communication. I will use all 3 types of appeals towards my audience. I will

use logos to produce facts and reasoning that will evoke a response from my

audience, with Dr. Wilsons interview they will see his qualifications and

realize what they are leaving out of the textbooks. My approach at ethos will

prove my credibility will be verified with Dr. Wilsons interview and also my

survey as they will prove as truthful reliable facts. I can also appeal to my

audiences emotions with Pathos, I can prove with my survey that their

audience from their textbooks are either satisfied or unsatisfied with how the

textbooks are. All in all my pieces of my multi-genre project will project my

message to my audience quite well and hopefully help them consider adding

my material to their textbooks.
