Winter 2017

Assignment # 8
Q1: Ans:

We have two samples from two lots:

N1=5000 , n1=500 Then (2% of 500 = 10=C)
N2=10000, n2=1000 Then (2% of 1000 = 20 =C)

Now by using MS Excel, based on different values of p and the two cases of C(10, 20) then we need to
calculate the Pr{d c} for both samples by using the following:

p Pr{d<=10} Pr{reject} Pr{d<=20} Pr{reject} Difference

Different sample sizes offer different levels of protection. As we can see from the results above:

N1=5000 N2=10000
Pa(0.025) = 0.294 Pa(0.025) = 0.182
LTPD = 0.05 Pa(5000) = 0.00046 Pa(10000) = 0

However the consumer is protected from a LTPD = 0.05 by acceptance probabilities as in the table
above, but he pays for the high probability of rejecting acceptable lots like those with p = 0.025.

Q2: Ans:
We have two samples from two lots:
N1=1000 , = Then (1% of 32 0 =C)
N2=5000, = Then (1% of 71 1 =C)

Now by using MS Excel, based on different values of p and the two cases of C(0, 1) then we need to
calculate the Pr{d c} for both samples by using the following:

From the results in the table above we can see that this plan is offering highly different protections at
different levels of defectives, based on the lot size. As we can see in the case of p=0.01

N1=1000 N2=5000
Pa(0.01) = 0.7323 Pa(0.01) = 0.49484

Q7: Ans: Since N = 8000, AOQL = 3% , P1% Then:
a) From Table 15.8 (Our Book, p665): n=65, c=3 and LTPD =10.3%

b) To find ATI we need to find Pa since ATI = n+ (1-Pa)(N-n)..Then By using

Where p=0.01, n=65 and c=3

Pa = 0.9965 + (65 0.01 0.9964 ) + (65 32 0.012 0.9963 ) + (65 32 21 0.013 0.9962 )
= 0.9958
ATI = 65 + (1-0.9958)(8000-65) 98

c) Since N = 8000, AOQL = 3% , P 0.25% Then:

From Table 15.8 (Our Book, p665): n=46, c=2 and LTPD =11.6%

Using the same way as in (b) : where p=0.0025, n=46, and c=2

Pa = 0.997546 + (46 0.0025 0.997545 ) + (45 23 0.00252 0.997544 ) = 0.9998

ATI = 46 + (1-0.9998)(8000-46) 48

Q8: Ans: Since the Standard deviation is known and p1= 0.005, 1-=0.95, p2=0.02 and =0.1

Then by using the variables nomograph we can find that: n=120 and k=2.3

The lot will beaccepted if = .

Q9: Ans: Since N = 500, AQL = 4% , The inspection level II Then:

From Table 16.1 (Our Book, p677): The sample size code letter = E

If we assume single specification limit then:

From Table 16.2 (Our Book, p678): The Normal sampling plan: n = 7, k=1.15

Q10: Ans: Since N = 100,000, AQL = 1% , LSL = 225, Assume the inspection level V Then:
From Table 16.1 (Our Book, p677): The sample size code letter = P

From Table 16.2 (Our Book, p678): The Normal sampling plan: n = 150, k=2.03

From Table 16.2 (Our Book, p678): The Tightened sampling plan: n = 150, k=2.18

By Assuming normal sampling is in effect where = 255, = 10 :
