1. What requirements must you meet in order to study abroad? (i.e. GPA, etc.)
Students must obtain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for semester or year-long
programs. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 for summer
programs. Students must also have at least sophomore standing during
term abroad. Students must get approval from the Office of International
Programs and their department, and they cannot be in their final
semester of degree programs during their period abroad.

2. What are the three (3) different types of study abroad programs available to

students?
The three different types of study abroad programs include Study Abroad
which refers to a credit bearing course or series of courses taken
overseas, for which the student will receive a transcript from the
overseas university. The second program is Academic Enrichment
Programs which is a short trip abroad (less than 2 weeks), usually
faculty-led, for which academic credit may or may not be received. The
third type of program is Other Educational Opportunities Abroad and
these educational opportunities can be credit bearing or non-credit
bearing. Credit can be provided by the program provider or the professor
of record at A&T who supervises and provides the grade.

3. What are the deadlines for applying for study abroad?


The deadlines for these programs depend on when you plan to study
abroad. If you want to go in the summer, then the deadline is March 15th.
If you planned to go Spring 2017, then the deadline was October 14 th. The
deadline for Fall 2017 is also March 15th.

4. What are three different ways that you can raise money to fund your trip?
One way that you can get money to go study abroad is through your
financial aid package. Another way, is through scholarships. Lastly, is
through sponsors and savings.
5. Name two (2) scholarships that can fund you for your trip and how you meet the

requirements?
There are four scholarships included in the study abroad pamphlet. One
of those scholarships is called the Benjamin A. Gilman International
Scholarship, which allows pell-grant recipients to receive up to $5,000 for
studying abroad fees. Another one is called the Freeman Asia
Scholarship, which is available to students studying in East and
Southeast Asia and they can receive $3,000 for the summer program,
$5,000 for the semester program, and $7,000 for the yearlong program.

6. Where would you like to travel to for your study abroad experience and why?
I would love to study abroad in Africa. One of these reasons include being
able to see how my ancestors lived and where they came from. Also, I
would love to be able to help the children in Africa. I also want to be able
to see how beautiful Africa is first-hand. Ive always seen pictures, good
and bad, but it would be an amazing experience to be able to view it with
my own two eyes, and be able to touch things.

7. Does A&T offer this as an option? If not, then what would be your second choice

destination?
NC A&T SU does offer studying abroad programs. I know individuals who
went through these programs at NCAT. I will be one of these people at
one point in time.
