Bibliography lesson plan

Scenario: Instruct high school students on the correct bibliographic information of

printed materials.

Objective: To familiarize students with the bibliographic information of print materials

in the library. After completion of the lesson students will be able to locate and identify
the bibliographic information of printed material for use in producing a product.

Standard: 1. Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge.

1.1.8 Use technology resources such as on-line encyclopedias, on-line

data bases, and web subject directories, to locate information.

3. Share knowledge and participate ethically and productively as

members of our democratic society.

3.1.4 Use technology and other information tools to organize and display
knowledge and understanding in ways that others can view, use and
assess.

Materials: Computer with projector and screen; samples of print materials from the LMC;
computer lab resources; handouts for student use; internet availability

Procedures:

1. Review parts of the book with students needed to obtain correct information for a
bibliography.

a. Title Page; will have title, author, illustrator (if there is one), publisher,
place of publication (majority of the time)

b. Copyright page (next page after title page); will have copyright date, place
of publication (if not supplied on title page).

2. Use physical print materials for demonstration. Can also use computer with
projector and screen utilizing sites such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble to display
electronic title pages for above information.

3. Pass out bibliography worksheet for students to complete.

4. Review random worksheets with students displaying books and showing

bibliographic information retrieved.
 5. Using computer and projector with screen;

a. Demonstrate the use of NoodleTools; electronic bibliography composer

b. Stress MLA format

c. http://www.noodletools.com/

6. Take one students print resource bibliographic information from worksheet and
input into NoodleTools to demonstrate how it will compose a bibliography. Do
this using computer and overhead projector with screen.

Assessment: Review of bibliographic material supplied by students during search.

Closure: Review what information is needed for a bibliography, where that information is
located on the resource, review the availability of NoodleTools to compose a
bibliography.
