The movie Space Odyssey is one of the most mind blowing movies I have watched.

It is way ahead of its time in Technology, and Intellect. I have realized that the more

People want and desire to do something, make something or go somewhere the better

they become so they can be able to do it. In the movie they have technology like face time that

wasnt invented until 2010 and the first man on the moon wasnt until 1969. The 2001 Space

Odyssey was made in 1967 and the technology that they use is 10-20 years ahead of its time.

In the movie we started off as a chimpanzee and then one day we saw a big black block that we

touched and it gave us the knowledge we lacked and with that knowledge we started to use

weapons and hunt for our food and survive. We later called the big black block a monolith and

we then got a magnetic signal from the moon and then we invented the technology to go to space

and find out what made that signal. They launched out with a crew and a super computer called

Hal 9000 to the moon and on the way they stopped at a space station.

They later on went to the moon and found the monolith making the signals. They tried

everything to penetrate it but it was un penetrable. They then touched the monolith and the

monolith gave them information and then it was gone and the people who touched it got smarter.

Later on a signal came from mars that was bigger than the one on the moon and they built a ship

to be able to go to mars. They had a super computer that is called HAL 9000 that turned bad and

ended up killing every crew member except a guy named Dave. Dave disconnected HALs

threatening servers and continued on the mission to get to the monolith but he wasnt ready and

the monolith didnt accept him.

(A) What is the Monolith? Do you think that humans have been influenced by extra-
terrestrial forces / species in our past? What evidence do you have for your
answer?

The monolith is a big black block that holds a lot of knowledge. I am not really sure if we were
or were not but a lot of people seem to believe that we have. People have pose d so many
different things about extraterrestrial life and they have videos of the government talking to
them.

(B) What do you think of HAL 9000? Is he to be treated like a human? Why or why
not? What/where do you source your answer based upon?

HAL 9000 is a super smart computer that is very confident of his knowledge. In some ways Hal
is to be treated like a human and in some ways he is not. He should be treated like a human when
you talk and ask him to do something. You should not treat him like a human when you do
something inappropriate or when you talk bad to him he is going to kill you like in the movie. In
the movie Dave treated Hal like a human and was the last one left but the other guy didnt treat
him like a human and was killed.

(C) Why do you think HAL 9000 acted the way he did? (your opinion is OK here).

Hal acted the way he did because he read the lips of Dave and the other guy and they were going
to disconnect and mess up the mission so Hal killed those he thought were going to mess up the
mission.

(D) If you were to be part of future space exploration and travel, what type of role
would you want to have in making this happen?

If I were to be a part of a future exploration then I would either be an engineer or the doctor of
the ship.
