CUSTOMER: Bolt hole misalignment was causing problems on
Equalizer Norwegian Distributor - Verktoy three different flange joints inside wind turbine
to End User tower sections.
LOCATION:
Wind turbine towers are made up of pipe sections
Offshore Wind Farm North Sea
with internally bolted flange connections. During
DATE fabrication, transportation and the installation phase
March 2017 these sections can become ovalised. This can result
in misalignment of the bolt holes and increases the
complexity of the installation process. In turn this
lengthens the time taken to assemble the towers
B ACK G R OU ND therefore increasing risks and costs.
E Q UAL I ZER S OLUT ION Instead of designing a new tool, Equalizer proposed a
fast and cost effective solution consisting of a custom
Equalizers existing tool, TFA12TE External Hydraulic piston extension piece that can be attached to the
Wind Tower Alignment Tool, fits two of the three TFA12TE, effectively extending the rise of the tool. See
applications as shown in the images. below:
