Celebrates 60 Years of Community and Business Development

Established in 1957, the SDBA works with investors, entrepreneurs, customers, and neighbors to capitalize on
Southwest Detroit's competitive advantage. It strategically implements programs and services to support the
advancement of minority-owned businesses, engender economic growth for residents, and sustain healthy, vibrant
neighborhoods.

During our 60 years of service, SDBA has had great success in our programs and spearheaded many firsts in
Southwest Detroit:

Launched the Mexicantown Community Development Corporation, the Southwest Detroit Environmental
Vision, and the Southwest SubZone Community Policing Program;
Established the 1st Business Improvement District in the state of Michigan;
Raised $6.4 Million and constructed a new lighting, landscaping and sidewalk along 2.3 miles of our major
business corridor;
Implemented the 1st Faade Improvement Program in Detroit

Southwest Detroit consists of one of the largest Hispanic populations in Michigan, which includes more than 800
Hispanic-owned small businesses. Its commercial district features more than 1,700 businesses across a 15.5
square mile area, including 140 restaurants, 30 bakeries, and 25 grocery and specialty food stores. Southwest
Detroit has been one of the most stable neighborhoods in Detroit since the early 1900s. SDBA continues to work
to advance the interests of the both the business and residential communities, with its motto of Business Building
Community, Community Building Business.

Your special event partnership can have a profound impact on our various programs. As a matter of fact, a $30,000
sponsorship can provide facade improvements and exterior building enhancements for 6-8 businesses, and a
$5,000 sponsorship provides one-on-one technical assistance for 10 Bonding Education Program graduates.

For 60 years, SDBA has proudly served over 150 businesses and entrepreneurs representing healthcare,
manufacturing, retail, food service and human services industries. However, we know that the need is far greater.
Your support of our key fundraising events will help us continue assisting those business owners most in need in

The 2017 CIB: Destination Southwest will be a milestone event in celebration of SDBAs 60th Anniversary. The
annual SDBA CIB attracts over 300 distinguished leaders representing Detroit area businesses and corporations,
foundations, government entities and residents from Southwest Detroit and Southeast Michigan.

The highlight of the morning is the presentation of the SDBA Awards, which honor the contributions of individuals
and business owners who promote long-term financial stability and inclusion in our communities. Our 2017
honorees will be people and companies who exemplify the mission of SDBA and have been instrumental in
advancing Southwest Detroits prominence - a healthy workforce and thriving neighborhoods!
