English 1-2 Classroom


Students:
Jaiden, Sierra, Alex, Deon, Dylan, and Veronica all receive assistance from the co-teacher as she
sees fit. They are students on IEPs.
Calvin Davis is on a 504.
Ben and Sam have occasional behavioral issues to keep an eye on throughout the class.
Andrew and Annethy are two students that struggle and need extra help.
David and Ana are both students in the ELL program that speak broken English.
Plan:
- Begin the class by wrapping up Act 5 discussion (3 minutes max)
o In small groups, take 3 minutes and decide who is at fault for the death of Romeo
and Juliet. Each group gives an answer.
o Talk briefly about Prince losing two relatives
o Talk about what killed Lady Capulet
- Deepening of understanding activity: Claim Support Explain (20 minutes)
o Each group will get a sheet with 4 claims on it ranging from good to bad)
o INDIVIDUALLY first each student will go through and rank the claims from
strongest to weakest (1 strongest and 4 weakest)
o As a group, they have to come up with 3 reasons that make the strongest the
strongest.
o INDIVIDUALLY the students will go through and find two quotes that support
that claim.
o As a group, they will choose two of the STRONGEST quotes that support their
claim.
o Finally, they will each go around and read their final claim and two supporting
quotes.
This helps them essentially structure the essay for tomorrows quiz.

o Cash Cab
Each group is on their own.
It will jump from side to side, (Capulets and Montagues)
Once the question is asked, the students will have 30 seconds to disuss in
their small group)
They get one chance.
Add up the points for every right answer. Once we get to the final question
a name will be picked at random and that student answers on everyones
behalf.
If he/she gets it right, everyone gets double family points.
If he/she gets it incorrect, only the other team gets their won points.
They have an option to refuse to answer and then both teams get the points
that they earned.
