Dear Dr. Bruce,

When entering this class, my goal was to become a more efficient writer in

order to continue my career in kinesiology. You provided us with Student Learning

Outcomes (SLOs) in order to prepare us to become better writers for future courses.

Throughout this semester you have assigned us assignments in order to practice

these SLOs in hopes we master them by the end of the semester. These

assignments allowed me to truly test my writing skills and use these SLOs as a

guideline for success in this class. This cover letter will show how I have mastered

these SLOs through these assignments given throughout the semester. The

assignments will display my execution of our SLOs, every paragraph will be

different assignment used to show my mastery of the SLOs.

The first assignment that showed my mastery of SLOs is my Annotated

Bibliography. My bibliography shows many of the SLOs we were given at the

beginning of this semester. I showed my understanding of Rhetorical focus by being

able to write a formal bibliography for a select audience, which was my peers and

the LA or NY times. The pre writing process really helped me master rhetorical focus

through the rhetorical triangle. It allowed me to focus in on my audience and

understand a little bit about them. This also required organization and focus in order

to be able to find appropriate sources and describe how I planned to integrate them
into my editorial. This assignment also displayed my mastery of persuasive

arguments. I understood who my audience was and was able to target my

audience and persuade them why marijuana should not be considered a banned

substance due to lack of evidence of enhancing properties. I was able to show how

some PEDs work compared to marijuana and also how marijuana affects the body. I

also was able to back up my persuasive argument with plenty of research and

evidence. This allowed me to master ethical research due to the amount of

evidence provided to back my argument. I was able to properly cite some authentic

sources in MLA format in order to have enough evidence to back up my claim that

marijuana should not be a performance enhancing drug.

My last assignment that wrapped up my mastery of SLOs was our generated

research questions for our bibliography and peer review of other research questions.

This was in our Discussion board Number five. In this assignment I displayed my

mastery of academic language and design. I displayed how I was able to evaluate

and recognize an ethical issue and design a research question that expressed my

influence and meaning on what our culture should believe about marijuana as a

PED. During the peer review portion, I was able to show my mastery of

collaboration. After reading my classmates question, I was able to provide quality

critique in order to help them create a more focused question. I suggested my peer

should narrow the scope of their question by replacing words with specific phrases

as seen in our book Joining the Conversation, by Mike Palmquist.

All in all, I was able to become a more efficient writer due to these SLOs

weve been practicing during our assignments. I believe this will be very beneficial

for me in future courses while pursuing my degree in kinesiology. Thank you for your

teachings and for reading this cover letter as you review my portfolio
