Section 3 Comprehension
Read the story below and answer the questions about what you have read.
Brandon was an adventurous boy; he could not keep still and often did daring things
which left his mother scared. One Sunday after lunch, Brandon climbed a huge, old tree in the
backyard. He enjoyed playing among the sturdy branches, where no one could see him. Not
even his smaller sister.
As the leaves swished and swayed in the breeze, he tried to crouch like a monkey and
shouted, I wish I could fly!
Then with his arms open wide, he made a dive for a much lower branch. He thought of
the eagle he had seen in the book: Birds of the World. He thought of himself as a monkey
reaching for a branch with an outstretched arm.
Ugh! He struck a branch and fell onto a pile of leaves. Mom heard the thud and ran
outside. Oh! she said, are you hurt? As Brandon got up slowly, and dusted his clothes, he
said, Dont worry Mom, I am not hurt. No more flying for me, at least not in a hurry.
