Cennamo, Katherine, John D. Ross, and Peggy A. Ertmer. Technology Integration for

Meaningful Classroom Use: A Standards-Based Approach. Belmont, Calif: Wadsworth, 2010.

Print.

This source is comprised of field research and surveys conducted among elementary

educators and parents regarding technology use by their children. It focuses around the amount

of technology use in the classroom and outside the class, to give the reader an accurate

representation of the amount of time spent using electronics by kids. This book was impartial to

the effects the technology use, it just stated the numbers regarding amount of use in and around

the classroom.

I intend to use this source to help show the reader just how wide spread technology use is,

among children. The classroom is just one more place that technology continues to expand to. I

want to show the reader that while there are significant benefits to using technology in the

classroom, there are some adverse risks that need to be contemplated to determine if technology

use is worth the risk when it comes to adolescents.

Guzzetti, Barbara J, and Mellinee Lesley. Handbook of Research on the Societal Impact of

Digital Media. , 2016. Internet resource.

This is a book with credible studies that support the thesis that there is an impact of

technology on society. The book just states the facts and statistics and doesnt speak on the

question of whether or not technology has a positive or negative effect on human health. This

book incorporates many studies and research conducted by other notes sources, that effectively

states the amount of technology use we use in the united states.

This resource Is very important to my paper as a whole. One of the main points I want to

make at the beginning of the paper is how dependent we are on technology. In America, we use

technology every day. Form laptops to phones, even our cars are integrated with technology.

Essentially, technology exists in every facet of our lives. Essentially, I want to use the

information presented to show how often we use technology in our daily lives, and then use the

other resources to show that there are adverse health risks to using technology so often.

Hourcade, Juan P, Natasha E. Bullock-Rest, and Thomas E. Hansen. "Multitouch Tablet

Applications and Activities to Enhance the Social Skills of Children with Autism Spectrum

Disorders." Personal and Ubiquitous Computing. 16.2 (2012): 157-168. Print.

This is medical research work, based around the theory that the use of tablets could

positively affect the mental acuity of a person with autism. In conclusion to this research, they

found that many patients experienced an increase in the ability to effectively collaborate with

peers. After prolonged use of specifically designed programs, engineered to foster team work

and critical thinking, patients were observed and it was noted that there were visible differences

in the ability to perform given tasks.

I intend to use this source in the beginning of the paper. I want to show that with the help

of technology, we are beginning to find ways to help people. I hope to use this to show that

technology is good, and we can do really good things with the use of technology. But at the

same time, we have to consider that there are other health risks associated with prolonged use of

technology. And being dependent upon technology can be averse to human health.

Kitchel, Elaine. "The Effects of Blue Light on Ocular Health." The Effects of Blue Light on

Ocular Health. American Printing House for the Blind, n.d. Web. 02 Mar. 2015

This work is a medical paper written by Elaine Kitchel, in which She explains the effects

of blue light on our eyes. There were several experiments conducted on a test group of rhesus

monkeys. These tests were an attempt to pinpoint any medical effects associated with long term

exposure of blue light to the eyes. In their findings, they noticed all the test subjects had formed

yellow lesions in and around the Retinal Pigmented Epithelium (RPE). The study cited that, in

modern adults with a history of blue light exposure, they tended to naturally have more yellow

pigment in their eyes. From this they derived that Constantly bombarding our eyes with blue

light is negative to our health.

With this information, I am going to try to show the reader that there are some serious

health risks associated with prolonged use of technology. I also intend to show that there could

possibly be more risks that we are not aware of yet. These are only the visible problems from

limited source contact with blue light. What will happen when you constantly look at a phone all

day. How that will affect the brain, the nervous system, cognitive function? These are all still
unknown to us. Little by little we are understanding more about the consequences of technology,

but people should still limit the amount of technology they use.

Ling, Richard S. The Mobile Connection: The Cell Phone's Impact on Society. San

Francisco, CA: Morgan Kaufmann, 2004. Internet resource.

This resource contains many studies conducted across many countries and locations

about the use of cellphones among humans. This book investigates the link between people and

mobile communication devices. Also, it includes information about the intrusive nature of

cellphones and the growth of asynchronous discourse in society.

I intend to use this piece to help reinforce the disconnect between humans and reality, due

to the use of cellphones. This is a big problem in society. I feel that people are more invested in

their phones then they are in personal interaction. I am going to use this piece to convey that to

the reader.
