Internship SPM 433

Dr. Stowe

As a Junior attending Johnson C. Smith University, I have learned many skills that have
helped me prosper in the Sport Management department. A few skills that I have learned over
these three years have been my time management skills, how to communicate thoroughly with
others, critically thinking in all situations, decision making skills and working with others.
Managing my time has been one of the hardest task. This skill has taught me how to strategically
plan tasks and events without overwhelming myself. Communicating with others is a vital to
others In this department, it has not only open doors for me but it has also allowed me to network
with individuals from all classes and professors in my future career field. Critically thinking in
sports related environments can help develop a person's ability to think in life threatening
situations within an organization or even in life. Decision making skills have helped me a lot
throughout this process, its allowed me the chance to evaluate the important and least important
things in my life, and it has also aided me in making decisions to help further my academic
success. Although, I am not a supporter of team work I have learned to appreciate all my peers in
all work-related experiences.

Accomplishments that have been awarded to me through this program have given me the
opportunity to develop my resume for my future endeavors. During the summer of my freshman
year I received the opportunity to study abroad in Istanbul, Turkey with the University. In 2016 I
was inducted into Phi Epsilon Kappa Honor Society an honor society for member in the sport
management and community health department. Following this accomplishment, I received
another scholarship to study with Syracuse University in Sydney, Australia, where I studied
abroad, during this experience I visited the MCG stadium where rugby games and AFL games
are played, Australia open tennis court, 1956 summer Olympic venue and much more. In 2015 I
began my internship with Rocky Whitaker as a game operations intern, during my internship I
engaged with fans as I participated in coca cola towel tosses, half time shows, guest services and
social media coverage. In 2017 I began working with Ricky Price as an intern for Game ready
skills and development. During this internship, I became the supervisor of Character education
courses that are offered through his program. Lastly, I have been an intern for Urban Sports for
the CIAA for two years. Lessons that I have learned at Johnson C. Smith, have been to never let
any opportunity pass you, and to also read your emails.

Professional development plays a crucial role in finding a job after college. The sport
management department has helped guide me with resume advice, mock interviews, hhp club
membership, and also gain experience within the sports field.
