To Whom It May Concern,
As the English Language Learner Program Coordinator at Ka'ala Elementary, | am
writing in support of Ms. Jayden Yonekura who is applying for a teaching position
at your school.
Ms, Yonekura worked as a part-time teacher in the English Language Learner (ELL)
Program at Ka‘ala Elementary during the 2016 fall semester-—-August 1, 2016
through December 21, 2016. The position required Ms. Yonekura to become
certified in administering the WIDA W-APT English language proficiency placement
assessment as well as assess those learners needing to be tested. Upon successful
certification, Ms. Yonekura organized all pertinent materials and student data, and
completed the assessments of 31 incoming kindergarteners.
Once learners were identified, Ms, Yonekura met with homeroom teachers and
effectively scheduled kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 2 classrooms for ELL
program support services. She also identified learners who demonstrated the
greatest needs, and successfully scheduled individual /small group pull-out services.
In addition to her effective work with her assigned ELLs, what impressed me about
Ms. Yonekura was her complete and genuine willingness to learn as much as she
could to optimize the level of academic progress her students could achieve. Ms.
Yonekura always sought input and/or direction that would help her provide
targeted, meaningful lessons. She took ownership and initiative to seek out
additional materials that could possibly have greater instructional impact, and even
utilized and donated personally owned phonics sets she had used with her daughter.
In my opinion, Ms. Yonekura would be a valuable addition to any school faculty. She
possesses a positive attitude, motivation to ensure the greatest possible growth in
students, and a willingness to work with others in order to achieve maximum
results.
Sincerely,
Michelle Mirafuentes
