General instructions
This paper consists of seven questions over two sections.
Answer five questions, Question 1 and any other two questions from section A
and any two questions from section B.
Use a separate answer book for each section.
Use the attached standard dimension papers to answer Question 1 b) iii).
A non-programmable electronic calculator may be used but candidates must show
sufficient steps to justify their answers.
Drawings should be clear, in good proportion and in pencil. Do not use red ink.
All questions carry equal marks. The maximum marks for each section within a
question are shown.

1 a)

Calculate girths for
i) outer face of 225 mm wall
ii) inner face of 225 mm wall
iii) center line of 225 mm wall. (3 marks)
b) Width of strip foundation is 450 mm and depth of trench is 700 mm from the
ground level.
Use the following details and specification notes to answer parts i), ii) and iii).
Remove 150 mm top soil layer to be kept for re-use.
Bitumen felt to BS 874 Damp proof course (DPC) laid on foundation,
150 mm above the ground level.
Foundation materials : 225 x 150 mm Random rubble work to be bonded
with C:S (1:3).
75 mm thick 1:3: 6 mix with 40 mm concrete screed.
200 mm well compacted hardcore.
1200 gauge polythene used for damp proof membrane (DPM).
i) Draw the details of foundation section taken from X X as noted in Figure Q1
and label it. (5 marks)
ii) Write taking off list for the substructure items. (4 marks)
iii) Take off quantities for the following items using the given specification notes.

Use standard taking off sheets (attached worksheet WSQ1) to answer this
question. Write full description for each item and make necessary assumptions
where information is not given. Assumptions made shall be entered onto a
query sheet for the attention of the Architect/Engineer.
Detach worksheet WSQ1 from the question paper, write your name,
centre number and candidate number in the spaces provided and
enclose it with your answer book.

2 a) Identify two advantages of integrated (Design and Build) procurement system. (2 marks)
b) State two differences between a tender document and a contract document. (2 marks)

d) Discuss the main items included in a Tender Evaluation report. (4 marks)
e) Calculate the cost per square metre (m2) for common bricks in cement: sand = 1:5

Use the following data to answer the question.
215 x 102.5 x 65 mm size bricks laid in stretcher bond.
Deliver to site 400 per 1000 bricks.
Skilled Labour rate is 2.5 per hr.
Unskilled Labour rate is 2 per hr.
Cost of mortar 43 per m3.
Gang size is (2+1).
Brick layer output 50 numbers per hour.
Allow 5% and 7% wastage for bricks and mortar respectively.
Allow for small tools 10% for the total cost. (9 marks)
