The children will expand their knowledge about friendship by reading a book and then create a friendship
tree with the class.

IV. Materials Needed:
The book My Friends and I
Long piece of paper with a tree on it
Different colored paint
Paintbrushes
Marker

V. Directions / Steps / Process [Parts A, B C]:
A. Motivation
I will bring out the big piece of paper with the tree on it and show the children we are going to make a
friendship tree.

B. Steps
1. I will bring out the tree on the big piece of paper
2. I will show them the cover of the book
3. I will ask them if friendship reminds them of Valentines Day
4. I will read them the book
5. I will bring the children over to the table
6. I will call up 2 children at a time and paint one hand whichever color of paint they pick
7. I will have them stamp their hand on a branch
8. I will write their name next to their handprint
9. I will have the children wash their hands

C. Conclusion and Transition



Conclusion:
I will explain to the children that now that we created a friendship tree everyone in the class needs to treat
others friendly.

Transition:
I will take a picture of the finished project.
