Value of digit of number in base two, eight and five.

Example: NUMBER IN BASE 2

Find the value of the underlined digit, in base ten, in the number 101102
Solution:
Base two: 1 0 1 1 0
4 3 2 1
Place value: 2 2 2 2 20

The answer is : 1 x 21 = 1 x 2 = 2.

Find the value of the following underlined digits.

Example: NUMBER IN BASE 8

Find the value of the underlined digit, in base ten, in the number 12428
Solution:
Base eight: 1 2 4 2
Place value: 83 82 81 80

The answer is : 2 x 82 = 2 x 64 = 128

Find the value of the following underlined digits.

a. 211018 b. 104518 c. 31028 d. 602258 e. 12428

Example: NUMBER IN BASE 5

Find the value of the underlined digit, in base ten, in the number 12215
Solution:
Base five: 1 2 2 1
3 2 1
Place value: 5 5 5 50

The answer is : 2 x 52 = 2 x 25 = 50.
