The P132 P139 feeder protection test template can be extended by the user to allow testing the protection
functions currently not supported. It is possible to add any test module to the existing templates. The
additional test modules will not affect the template. The LinkToXRIO option can also be used to activate or
deactivate automatically the new test module.

7 OMICRON philosophy
The P132 P139 feeder protection test template includes the pick-up and trip time value tests which are
performed in a standardized way. For the pick-up and drop-off value test, the setting value is evaluated by
a ramp increasing the variable under test until the pick-up value is reached. The test of drop-off values is
done in a similar way by decreasing the tested value until the drop-off value is reached.
Trip times are tested by simulating a fault which exceeds the pick-up value and the specific tolerances.
This results in a trip command of the tested protection function. The time between the simulation of the
fault and the reception of the trip signal is measured and evaluated.

Note: Do not only rely on the automatic assessment of test points in the test modules. Check the
plausibility of all test results manually to gain maximum security that all test results are reliable.

8 Template structure
The structure of the P132 P139 feeder protection test template is shown below.

Figure 6: P132 P139 feeder protection test template

Note: For the trip time tests using the OMICRON Overcurrent module:
a. Test shots are previously defined. Check if these points are suitable and adapt them manually
if necessary;
b. In the Fault tab, Fault Settings area, the Absolute max. time is preset to 1.0ks in case the first
stage is an Inverse curve. If testing with bigger trip times is required, remove the LinkToXRIO
and adjust this value. In case all the stages are definite time ones, the Absolute max. time will
be set automatically.

8.1 Wiring test

The wiring test is used to check the connections between the CMC test set and the relay. Therefore the
OMICRON QuickCMC test module is used to inject voltage and current values. The values of voltage and
current can be freely defined by the user. If all connections are correct, the same values can be read out
of the relay and the test can be manually assessed.

Please note that the values of the residual current and voltage are scaled with the phase CT and phase
VT ratios.

The test has to be started by pressing the F5-Button and after reading the values out of the relay this
button has to be pressed again. By using the F10-Button the test can be rated as "passed" or "failed". You
have to leave the QuickCMC module by hand to return to the OCC-file.

8.2 Initial test

The initial test is used to check whether the relay trips when a fault condition occurs. The OMICRON State
Sequencer test module is used for this test. A fault simulating an asymmetrical high current condition and
an asymmetrical voltage condition should cause tripping of basic protection functions in the relay.

8.3 Pick-up and drop-off of the phase overcurrent

For testing the pick-up and drop-off values, the OMICRON Ramping test module is used. This module
allows testing the pick-up and drop-off of the overcurrent stage with the lowest pick-up value. The lowest
pick-up value is taken from the all set phase overcurrent stages.

8.4 Overcurrent trip time tests

For testing the trip times of overcurrent stages, the OMICRON Overcurrent test module is used. The test
is performed with a three-phase fault The resulting characteristic for all overcurrent stages in each
direction is drawn and the test shots are set at 1.1 IPickup for all active stages and additionally at
0.9 IPickup for stages 2 and 3. The trip time for each test point is measured and evaluated. The test
points can be adapted if necessary.
If a phase overcurrent stage is active in the non-directional mode, it will be visible in both the forward and
reverse test modules. However, if all stages are selected as non-directional, only the forward test module
is activated
Note: Only one of the stages can have an inverse definite minimum time (IDMT) characteristic. The other
two stages must have a definite time characteristic.
Note: The thermal overload protection may interfere overcurrent trip time tests. To avoid interferences,
this function needs to be blocked before running the test.

Figure 8: Trip time test for phase overcurrent stages

8.5 Trip/warning time of the thermal overload

The thermal overload function of the relay is tested with the OMICRON Overcurrent test module by
simulating a symmetrical load. The test shot is set to 1.6Iref. The test shot can be adjusted manually if
required. Please mind the Start factor (072.180) when placing your shots.
The thermal memory of the function should be reset before beginning of the test. For detailed information,
see the relay documentation.

Note: If one of the thermal overload stages tests are not required or cannot be tested (e.g. the warning
signal is not available) remove the link and uncheck the test module.
Note: The phase overcurrent protection stages may interfere with this test. To avoid any interference, the
overcurrent function needs to be blocked.

8.6 Pick-up and drop-off of the residual overcurrent protection

For testing the pick-up and drop-off values, the OMICRON Ramping test module is used. The lowest pick-
up value of stages set forward, reverse or no directional is tested. Current magnitude is ramped until pick-
up is reached and the type of injection is dependent on the method of evaluation of residual current:
IN calculated - current is injected to relays phase CT inputs as 3I0 condition.
IN measured current is injected to relay neutral CT input.

8.7 Residual protection trip times

For testing the trip time of the directional/non-directional residual overcurrent stages, the OMICRON
Overcurrent test module is used. Tests for elements using measured and calculated neutral current
evaluation are divided into modules, covering forward overcurrent stages and reverse stages with
separate modules activated depending on the type of neutral voltage evaluation. The residual test voltage
and the current angle are automatically calculated and linked in both test modules.

If a residual overcurrent stage is active in the non-directional mode, it will be visible in both the forward
and reverse test modules. However, if all stages are selected as non-directional, only the forward test
module is activated.
The resulting characteristic for all active stages for each operating mode and direction is drawn and the
test shots are set at 1.1 IPickup for all active stages and additionally at 0.9 IPickup for stages 2 and 3.
The trip time for each test point is measured and evaluated. Test points can be adapted if necessary.

Note: Only one of the stages in each direction can have an inverse definite minimum time (IDMT)
characteristic. The others must have a definite time characteristic.

8.8 Pick-up and drop-off of the negative sequence protection

For testing the pick-up and drop-off values of the negative sequence protection, the OMICRON Ramping
test module is used. The lowest pick-up value of negative sequence overcurrent stages is being tested.
For these tests an anti-symmetrical three-phase fault and two ramp states are generated. The pick-up
value is tested with the first ramp, the drop-off value with the second ramp.

8.9 Trip time of the negative sequence protection

The trip times of the two negative sequence stages are tested with the OMICRON Overcurrent test
module. The resulting characteristic for all active negative sequence overcurrent stages is drawn and the
test shots are set at 1.1 IPickup for all active stages and additionally at 0.9 IPickup for stages 2 and 3.
The trip time for each test point is measured and evaluated. Test points can be adapted if necessary.

Note: Only one of the stages can have an inverse definite minimum time (IDMT) characteristic. The other
stage must have a definite time characteristic.

8.10 Directional tests

The directional minimum and maximum angles are tested with the OMICRON Ramping test module. The
directional angle is tested with two ramp states per test module. The first ramp state tests the minimum
directional angle and the second ramp state tests the maximum directional angle. An intermediate state is
introduced between the two ramps to reset the pick-up signal. The relay characteristic angle (RCA) is
calculated from the maximum and the minimum directional angles and evaluated by the test module.

8.11 CB trip time

For testing the trip time with circuit breaker contacts, the OMICRON State Sequencer test module is
used. This test is divided into three sequencer states: pre-fault, fault and post-fault. In the fault state, a
three-phase overcurrent condition is simulated in forward direction (Ifault = 2Ipickup). The time between the
trip command and the time when the circuit breaker is opened is evaluated.

Note: The auxiliary circuit breaker contacts (52a) should be wired to the binary input of the CMC during
this test.
