Lesson Plan for Grade 7

Topic: Personal Pronouns

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
identify personal pronouns and its various types in the sentence;
familiarize with usages of personal pronouns through examples; and
use pronoun variations in sentences and longer texts
observe clarity of expression by matching pronouns with their referents

II. Before the Lesson:


A. Preparatory Activities
Greetings
Opening prayer
Checking of classroom cleanliness
Checking of attendance

B. Motivation

Speak Up:
Divide the class in two groups, and assign each group to keep tab of their
scores. For this activity, a selection will be read (aloud) and every time they hear
a word pronoun, they will respond with the word pronoun.
The most number of scores wins the game.

III. Lesson proper:


A. During the lesson

Personal Pronouns
used to indicate the viewpoint of the speaker/s; first person (refers to the
person speaking), second person (the person spoken to) and third person (the
person spoken about.)

Cases or Uses of Personal Pronouns


1. Nominative case pronouns used as subject or subject complement in a
sentence.
Example: You should be our leader.

2. Objective case pronouns used as direct object, or object of the preposition in a


sentence.
Example: Our coach gave him a chance.

3. Possessive case pronouns denoting ownership or possession.


Example: My mother said that someday this house would be mine.

Antecedents are nouns for which pronouns stand.


Example: Mike must study hard in order for him to pass the upcoming test.

Exercises:

A. Underline the pronouns in each of the following sentences.


1. I gave her a pair of shoes.
2. She wants a glass of water.
3. My brother finished cleaning the yard.
4. Can I have a piece of paper?
5. Is this yours?
B. Choose the correct pronoun.
1. People pollute (our, their) surroundings in various ways.
2. (They, Them) ruin natural beauty by throwing (their, theirs) trash on land and
in water.
3. Something should be done to stop using many things that harm (us, our)
environment.

C. Underline the pronouns and encircle their antecedents.


1. Arthur went to see his friend.
2. Is that you Grace?
3. Leo and Carla invited me to their brothers birthday.
4. My uncle made a painting and gave it to me.
5. Ella remarked that the best work in class was hers.

IV. Evaluation
Rewrite the paragraph by substituting pronouns for the underlined words.
Pocholo is a math wizard. Pocholo is always the schools representative
in competitions. As expected by Pocholos teachers and classmates, Pocholo
always brings home awards and trophies. Planning ahead is always his strongest
suit. Pocholo is really a genius.

V. Generalization:
A personal pronoun is used to indicate the viewpoint of the speaker/s; first
person (refers to the person speaking), second person (the person spoken to)
and third person (the person spoken about.)
It can be used as subject & subject compliment (nominative case), direct
object & object of the preposition (objective case) and to denote ownership or
possession (possessive case) based on what was needed in a sentence.
Antecedents are nouns for which pronouns stand.

VI. Assignment:

There will be another quiz tomorrow so review your notes. Also, write an essay
(minimum of 3 paragraphs) using of personal pronouns. Underline each and every one
of them.
