Proyecto Siqueiros: La Tallera abre la convocatoria a todos los profesionales relacionados

al campo del arte contemporneo para formar parte de la tercera edicin de la Escuela
de Crtica de Arte (ECA); un programa que La Tallera ha conceptualizado con el objeitvo
de reposicionar el papel de la crtica en el complejo sistema de produccin y difusin del
arte contemporneo donde, el ejercicio cuartorial, ha desplazado a la escritura.

Con la intencin de fomentar posiciones crticas y analizar el papel de la escritura en

el panorama actual de las artes visuales, el proyecto se ha planteado revisar escrituras
fundacionales y comprender el rol que han tenido diversos pensadores, tericos y
curadores en la redefinicin de los debates crticos en la arena internacional. Para
dicho fin, profesionales de envergadura en la construccin crtica del continente forman
parte del equipo acadmico que imparte los seminarios que se desarrollan durante el
periodo de la Escuela.

En su primera edicin en el ao 2014, la ECA analiz bajo la tutoria de Mari Carmen

Ramrez la construccin del concepto Arte Latino y la visin de lo Latinoamericano
edificado desde Estados Unidos; Gustavo Buntinx realiz una genealoga del arte
peruano desde una perspectiva crtica actual, Cuauhtmoc Medina abord la relacin
entre curadura y crtica tomando como eje las 5 exposiciones que realiz el Museo
de Arte Reina Sofa en el ao 2000, y finalmente, Osvaldo Snchez imparti un taller
experimental de escritura. El cierre de esta edicin estuvo a cargo de Gerardo Mosquera
quien realiz un anlisis de los comienzos de la Bienal de la Habana y algunos de los
trminos y problemticas que lanz para la crtica del arte en Amrica Latina.

La segunda edicin, llevada a cabo a prinicipios del 2016 propuso una revisin de
algunas de las principales voces y posiciones en el arte latinoamericano entre los aos
50 y 80 y estableci una genealoga sobre la construccin del debate crtico en Amrica
Latina en el contexto de la Guerra Fra. Aracy Amaral analiz la obra de Mario Pedrosa y
el papel que tuvo la OEA en la realizacin de simposios y exposiciones en los aos 60 del
siglo XX; Gustavo Buntinx analiz la escritura de Juan Acha en el Per y Andrea Giunta
trabaj el archivo, la escritura y el papel curatorial de Romero Brest en Argentina.Los
dos primeros periodos de la Escuela de Crtica de Arte fueron coordinados por Miguel
Lpez y Taiyana Pimentel.

Para esta tercera edicin, y con el objetivo de dar continuidad a la programacin, se

trabajarn las estretegias crticas de las figuras intelectuales de Marta Traba, Juan
Garca Ponce y Fernando Gamboa. Adems se contar con dos talleres de escritura
experimental en los que se analizarn las distintas prcticas literarias, utilizadas por
la crtica, a lo largo del siglo XX. Nuestro equipo acadmico para esta tercera edicin
est conformado por Rita Eder, James Oles, Mari Carmen Ramrez, Osvaldo Snchez y
Carla Stellweg.

El programa del 2017, se llevar a cabo del 21 al 29 de abril en las instalaciones

del Proyecto Siqueiros: La Tallera, ubicado en la ciudad de Cuernavaca, Morelos. La
convocatoria est abierta para 12 estudiantes, conformados por 9 profesionales que
residan actualmente en Mxico, y gracias al apoyo del Patronato de Arte Contemporneo
de Mxico (PAC), este ao la convocatoria se abrir a 3 estudiantes extranjeros que
sean bilinges, tengan un manejo del idioma castellano del 90 % y estn interesados en
las escrituras y la conformacin del campo del arte contemporneo en Latinoamrica.

Todos los interesados en formar parte de la Escuela de Crtica de Arte 2017, debern
enviar un texto crtico de su autora, que permita al equipo del Proyecto Siqueiros
tener un acercamiento a su trabajo escrito, acompaado de un CV, semblanza breve
y una carta de intencin de porqu quieren formar parte del programa (no debe
extenderse ms all de una cuartilla), al correo: tallera.difusion@inba.gob.mx , con el
asunto Candidatura ECA 2017. La seleccin de los estudiantes estar a cargo del equipo
Proyecto Siqueiros.

Una vez que se hayan anunciado los resultados, cada seleccionado recibir en su correo
electrnico el programa de exposiciones que se ha llevado a cabo en Proyecto Siquieros:
Sala de Arte Pblico La Tallera entre los aos 2009 y 2016, con el objetivo que el
profesional elija una exposicin sobre la que desarrollar su texto crtico durante el
periodo de trabajo en la ECA, y deber enviar los avances va correo electrnico el 20 de
abril. Los seleccionados que no enven el texto no podrn continuar con la participacin
en la Escuela.

Nuestra institucin asumir los gastos derivados de transporte, hospedaje y alimentacin

para todos los participantes seleccionados.

La fecha lmite para la recepcin de candidaturas ser el 28 de febrero, y los resultados

sern anunciados el 20 de marzo en las redes sociales de Proyecto Siqueiros y recibirn
un correo electrnico confirmando o declinando su participacin.

Third session

Siqueiros Project: La Tallera is announcing a call for submissions for the third session of
its Escuela de Crtica de Arte (ECA), inviting all professionals in the field of contemporary
art to apply. This program has been developed by La Tallera with the goal of redefining
the role art criticism plays in the complex system of contemporary art production and
dissemination, a world in which curatorial practices have come to displace the written
text.

With the intent of fostering new critical standpoints and examining the role that the
written word currently plays in the visual arts world, this project seeks to review several
foundational texts while investigating the role that pundits, theorists and curators have
held in redefining the ongoing critical debate on the international scene. In this aim, the
academic team giving the seminars at the Escuela de Crtica de Arte includes some of
the foremost thinkers currently involved in the construction of art criticism throughout
the American continent.

During its first session in 2014, acting director Mari Carmen Ramrez guided the ECA
through an investigation of the constructs existing in the United States that have created
the concepts of Latino Art and a Latin American identity. Gustavo Buntinx constructed
a genealogy of Peruvian Art from within the framework of contemporary art criticism.
Cuauhtmoc Medina examined the relationship between curatorial practice and art
criticism, taking 5 exhibitions held at the Museo de Arte Reina Sofa during 2000 as a focal
point for this analysis. Lastly, Osvaldo Snchez led an experimental writing workshop.
The first session closed with an analysis of the early beginnings of the Havana Biennial
and some of the conditions and problems that it raised for Latin American art criticism,
conducted by Gerardo Mosquera.

Held in early 2016, the second session sought to readdress several major voices and
postures taken in Latin American art between the 1950s and 1980s, establishing a
genealogy of the construction of critical dialogue in Latin America during the time of
the Cold War. Aracy Amaral analyzed the body of criticism produced by Mario Pedrosa
and the role played by the OAS in organizing symposiums and exhibitions during the
1960s. Gustavo Buntinx analyzed the writings of Juan Acha in Peru, and Andrea Giunta
in Argentina investigated the archives, writings and curatorial activities of Romero
Brest.These two sessions of the Escuela de Crtica de Arte were coordinated by Miguel
Lpez and Taiyana Pimentel.

As a continuation of the programs ongoing focus, the Escuelas third session will
investigate the critical strategies employed by the intellectual figures Marta Traba, Juan
Garca Ponce and Fernando Gamboa. Additionally, two experimental writing workshops
will be held in order to examine the distinct literary practices employed in art criticism
during the 20th century. The academic team for this third session is comprised of Rita
Eder, James Oles, Mari Carmen Ramirez, Osvaldo Snchez and Carla Stellweg.

The program for 2017 will be held between April 21 and 29, on site at the Siqueiros Project:
La Tallera Museum located in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos. The Escuela de Critica de
Arte will take in 12 students for this session, 9 of whom will be professionals currently
residing in Mexico. Thanks to the support of the Patronato de Arte Contemporneo de
Mxico (PAC), the Escuela will also accept 3 foreign students, who must be bilingual
with a 90% command of the Spanish language and interested in the writings and
contemporary makeup of the field of Latin American art.

Applicants interested in participating in 2017 Escuela de Crtica de Arte must submit one
written work of art criticism they have authored, allowing the Siqueiros Projects team
to become acquainted with their written work, accompanied by a CV, a brief bio and a
cover letter explaining why they wish to participate in the program (not to exceed one
page). Materials must be submitted to the following email address: tallera.difusion@
inba.gob.mx with Candidatura ECA 2017 in the subject line. Accepted students will be
chosen by the Proyecto Siqueiros team.

After the results are announced, each candidate accepted will receive an email
containing the exhibition program for the Proyecto Siqueiros: Sala de Arte Pblico La
Tallera, between 2009 and 2016. Using this exhibition program, admitted professionals
will choose one exhibition from the list about which to write a critical text while the ECA
is in session. All accepted applicants must inform the Siquieiros Project of their choice
by April 20. Those candidates who do not provide a selection by this time will be unable
to participate further in the Escuela.

Our institution will assume all costs of transportation, room and board for all selected
participants.

The deadline for receiving applications is February 28. Results will be announced by
the Siqueiros Project via social media on March 20. All candidates will receive an email
confirming whether or not they have been accepted to participate in the program.
