richer
Sometimes there can only be one winner, but there were 23
winners in the latest round of Council’s Community Grants.
The Summer 2017 round of Community Grants attracted 33
applications across the three program categories; Community
Strengthening, Events and Arts. A total of $112,813 was
requested with $70,000 available.
A report to the May 3 Council meeting said the Summer
2017 round was the first round where community groups
were able to submit their applications online.
“The response from community members in using the
online grant application was very positive with an 88 per
cent uptake,” the report read.

Myrniong Sprint
Competitors awoke to dark clouds and a wet track, but the road dried and the historic Myrniong
Sprint went ahead. But only until lunchtime when the heavens opened, and never closed.
Organisers said competitor numbers were low, as were spectator attendance. “This is not a
good day for us, but we run the event as we cannot predict the weather,” a spokesperson said.
The Myrniong Sprint was held on Sunday 9 April and is an annual event run by the Austin 7
club and the Myrniong community with proceeds to the Myrniong Hall. Photos Helen Tatchell

The season opener for the Cobras was against Redan and
round 2 saw us up against Darley in the Closter/Thacker
Cup. We weren’t strong enough on the day to win the cup
however all the teams were competitive and have begun
to show off some of the skills they have been working on
in training. The Baby Black U 10’s put in a great effort for
both of their games showing off their new skills. The Taco
Bill U12s seniors have won both of their games however
our reserves are yet to score a win. The WBL U14s reserves
10 Church Street, Bacchus Marsh, and Seniors are both still fighting for a win having lost both
Melbourne 3340 their games. The PHSA U16.5s reserves have won both their 8/151 Gisborne Rd,
games however the seniors are still fighting after 2 losses.
Darley VIC 3340
The junior girls played a practice against Diggers Rest which
03 5367 5156 saw them celebrating a win. The girls put some amazing
(03) 5367 5680
pressure on Diggers Rest and it really payed off.
Covertite Junior Netball
Round one saw wins for all our reserves teams and our U17
seniors against Redan. Round two however Darley were too
strong with only our U15 reserves enjoying a win. The U15
reserves came out really strong took it all the way through
their game. Both U17 teams played some amazing netball
but seemed to drop away in the second half of their games.
Round 2 saw our juniors play against Darley for the inaugural
Closter- Thacker Cup. It was an exciting day however it was
Darley who ended the day stronger. We look forward to the
challenge of playing for the cup again next year at our home 7a Grant Street 3340
ground.
