Extracurricular Write up 1, 2, & 3

Professor Decker

Throughout the semester I attended the monthly meetings of the National

Art Honors Society club. This club was sponsored by my cooperating teacher Ms.

Alter. The club met the last Wednesday of every month during common lunch

and meetings were required for all members. I attended the February, March,

and April meetings.

In the first NAHS meeting I attended, the group discussed the elected

officers and their roles. The meeting was led by the student that was president of

the club. The group also took a vote on other group members who had made

designs that would be used for a club t-shirt. The group then planned on when

the design would be made, and when t-shirts would be available to members,

and collected members shirt sizing. The design that was chosen was also

discussed to determine if any edits needed to be made to the design for optimal

pricing and aesthetics of the printing on the shirts. The group got a photo taken

with everyone for the yearbook. Then, the group discussed future and current

projects like the piano being painted for the commons, and the cabinet mural in

the French room. Additionally, future projects like the mini canvas fundraiser was

discussed. The meeting also discussed the requirements of hours that members

needed. As well as, the timelines and deadlines associated with this.

In the second meeting I attended in March, the group continued using this

time to deliberate and plan. THey discussed the status of the t-shirts. Also, they
gathered volunteers for 8th grade night, a day to show incoming students and

families what art at FCHS is like. Then discussed the fundraiser for mini

canvases, and took a date poll for what day they would sell during common

lunch. They also discussed deadlines for the piano and cabinet projects. As well

as the plans for the induction ceremony. There was also a presentation from Mr.

Blas about an opportunity for the group. The opportunity was a design

competition for a patch for that would be associated with the Go For Launch

project where teams compete for experiments to launch at the International

Space Station. They discussed the deadlines associated, how to collaborate, and

ideas for designs.

In the third meeting I attended, the group discussed T-shirt arrival. They

additionally discussed the day and time for induction and what it would consist of.

THe group discussed hours and minimum needed as well as final deadlines.

Final deadlines were planned for current projects like the cabinets and piano.

They also planned day and time to create the mini masterpieces for the

fundraiser and gathered volunteers so sell them during lunch. They handed out

submissions for exhibitions at the Fort Collins Museum of Art. They also

discussed plans for an event in May that would be a fundraiser for the club at a

local restaurant.

Overall, I think by doing my three extra curricular activities with the NAHS club I

gained valuable knowledge about what an art club looks like and does. I think my

involvement with observation of their monthly meetings gave me a good

understanding of what it is like to sponsor a club like this as a teacher. As well as,
how to manage projects, deadlines, and fundraisers in a club. I think this

extracurricular experience will aid me as a student teacher with Ms. Alter next

semester, as she will continue to sponsor this club, and I will assist her as a

student teacher.
