Mine dewatering is one of the important aspects of an open pit mine related to working

conditions, safety, productivity and the environment. Mine dewatering aims to minimize the
water that goes into the mining front, and removing water from mining front area (the pumping
process). Nickel mining by PT. Aneka Tambang (Persero) Tbk. Southeast Sulawesi UBPN using
open-pit mining system (surface mining) with selective mining methods that greatly influenced
by rainfall. Especially in the pit of Everest when high rainfall in the rainy season can cause water
runoff into the mine will be very large. Water runoff cant be prevented by the open channel, then
will come into the pits and accommodated by the sump. Water that has been accommodated by
the sump would be incurred by using a pump. But in the field, sump pit Everest is still often
overflow during the rainy season. The evaluation is based on historical data of rainfall, pumps
and piping specifications, topographical maps and map the progress of mine. The Data will be
processed using the Log Person III distribution is determined based on the statistical parameters
and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and in the test with statistical parameters Log Person III. From
these results followed by a determination of the rainfall intensity by Equation Mononobe and
discharge runoff with Rational Equations. The results of the data obtained sump volume and will
be compared with the actual sump volume. Sump volume that has been calculated scores based
on the volume of runoff. Everest pit sump volume is generated by 873.4 m 3. Based on the results
obtained sump volume has exceeded the actual sump volume. Alternatives to repair the sump and
increase the number of pumps then pit Everest requires the addition of a pump ns Matrix-100
with a speed of 700 rpm, and a truncated pyramid-shaped sump.
