Activity 1: Stimulus (5 mins) ,
T. activates sss prior knowledge about breaking news by

showing picture A on Chicken Wings Scavengers at
Bukit Aup and picture B on Kittens Found In A Hat.
T. asks the ss to choose which picture that best describes
the word Newsbreak.
List some examples of news breaking issues that you
know.
Expected Ans:
- Rohingyas ethnics being denied of their rights in
Myanmar and how Malaysia show concerns to them by
sending aid Food Flotilla for Rohingya.
- The mystery of MH370 disappearance
(Accept any relevant answers)

Activity 2: Building Blocks (10 mins)


T. plays a video sketch of the poem Newsbreak by
Form 1 Abu Bakar from SMK Seksyen 27. (Vid. length: 2
mins)
T. plays the video and pauses in between to ask simple
questions. (create a sense of focus among the ss)

Questions:
- In stanza 1, who does darling refer to?
- In stanza 2, does the child spend all of his luncheon
money?
- In stanza 3, what does the child usually do to his books?
- In stanza 4, what does the word hullabaloo mean?
- In stanza 5, what does the reason for the childs change

Activity 3: Having Fun! (10 mins)


T. briefly explains the meanings of each stanza. (PPT
slides)
Tell the ss that they are going to play a game called The
Unlock Game .
T. asks the ss to get into their usual groups. (5 groups of 6
ss)

T. distributes 5 envelopes which each contain 10 strips of


the meanings from each stanza of the poem.
T. gives clear instructions of the game to the ss.
T. asks each group to assemble the meanings of one
stanza in a correct order.
Example: Group 1 complete Stanza 1, So as G2:S2,
G3:S3, G4:S4, G5,S5.
Teacher walks around the class to ensure students
engagement on tasks and provide guidance where
necessary.
T. calls out the leader of G1 to read aloud their answer
strips for Stanza 1. So as G2:S2, G3:S3, G4:S4, G5,S5.
Teacher asks other ss for confirmation and then double
check by displaying the correct answers using the slides.
T. asks each group to complete the assembling of their
remaining stanzas as their homework.
Teacher praises all groups for their cooperation.

Closure: HOTS (5 mins)


T. asks the ss the following questions:
- What would you do if you have not achieved 70% mark
in your English test? Give two ways to upgrade your
result.
Expected answers:
- I will not give up and motivate myself to try harder in
next exam.
- I will sign up for English tuition class.
- I will listen attentively to my teacher teaching and do an
intensive practice at home.
Teacher reminds the ss to be prepared for the next lesson.
Lesson is adjourned.
