Definition of environmental science:
Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field that
integrates physical, biological and information
sciences (including ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, zoology, min
eralogy, oceanology, limnology, soil science, geology, atmospheric
science, and geodesy) to the study of the environment, and the
solution of environmental problems. Environmental science emerged
from the fields of natural history and medicine during
the Enlightenment. Today it provides an integrated, quantitative,
and interdisciplinary approach to the study of environmental systems.
IN COMPARISON, ECOLOGY: IS THE STUDY OF THE
INTERRELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LIVING ORGANISMS AND THEIR
ENVIRONMENT. ECOLOGY IS A BASIC TOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL
SCIENCE.
Environmental science combines information from many disciplines
such as biology, geography, chemistry, geology, physics, economics,
sociology, demography, cultural anthropology, resource management,
agriculture, engineering, law, politics, and ethics.
There are 3 main goals in environmental science:
1. Help us understand how the earth works.
2. Learn how we are affecting the earths life support systems
(environment) for us and other forms of life.
3. Propose and evaluate solutions to the environmental problems
we face.
Treat the earth well, It was not given to you by your parents,
It was loaned to you by your children - Indian Proverb

D) Summary of the text:

Environmental problems have been increasing during the 21 st century,
which has create a need for scientists with a background in environmental
science. The text deals with some concepts of environmental science, let
see some of them:
1. Definition of environmental science : Its a field of study that help
human better understand and manage the fauna and flora that
share the natural environment with us, the interactions between
human society and the environment and see how to improve and
deal with it, also environmental scientists have an important role in
helping to manage change and to be comfortable with the changes
How? By providing sustainable solutions where human has a
negative impact on the ecology, identifying sources of pollution,
assessing the level of flood risk to a new housing development or
sampling soils from brown field sites that could be turned over to
new uses.

2. The kind of jobs for environmental scientists to work in: Government

employs the most of environmental scientists, but they are posts
who are appearing in the private sector because the companies
need to adhere to new environmental rules and regulations.
Environmental scientists manage the use of natural resources in
both the private and public sphere.

3. Environmental scientists help human society to become aware of the

interconnectedness of ecosystems, they research the impact on
environments of proposed new building developments and
companies and make sure they are not breaking environmental laws
by preventive measures, help to reduce inefficient production
methods and the cut of the amount of waste.
Finally ecosystem become more and more fragile and humans became
more and more aware by the danger of pollution which has put human in
the necessity to became more eco-friendly.
Paraphrase the topic sentence:

- The added value of environmental scientists and their know-how.
