Effectiveness
Extent to which brief has been realised
How has my work met the brief? I followed the assignment brief to make sure
that my work met it as it said that I needed to create a CD cover consisting of a
front, back and spine. In addition, an A3 poster and for it to look professional and
be of a good/high quality. Also along with creating the three graphics, I also
needed to keep a dairy up-to-date of what it is that I did to create my graphics
and also list any sources that I used through this can be from me including
images of albums as examples and also from doing research of other bands I just
copied and pasted the URL onto my sources document.

Use of appropriate methods & techniques

The main software that I have used through
my work and also creating these graphics in
Photoshop as it is the best software for me
to use when it comes to what I want to do
which is taking different images editing
them and also re arranging them and
adding text to a certain canvas size to fit
the assignment brief. All of the skills that I
have used I have used I have documented
in my checklist this is what I have done on
Photoshop and what tools I have used whilst
I have been creating all of my graphics. As
you can see to the right this is part of my
checklist and all that I did was write about
what it is I did and how I used each tool and
add on to Photoshop

Level of professionalism achieved

I feel as if my level of professionalism that I have achieved is actually quite high
and I am happy with the outcome of all the graphics that I have produced and I
think that any band who need advertisement would use the posted that I have
created as I feel as it is fitting tit he band and the look that they have along with
fitting with the genre as the genre of pop-punk is unusual and I wanted that to
come through in the artwork and poster that I have designed for the pixels also
my graphics that are included in my work I have also made sure that my
graphics are of a high quality.

Problem solving
The only problem I came across to do with my graphics was getting the CD cover
to fit the case as it was smaller than what I needed it to be as the size that I had
researched wasnt the right size however I did solve this by just simply
measuring the standard CD case that I needed the cover artwork to fit in and
then enter the dimensions into Photoshop and just re sized some of the images
and then reprinted and cut it out then it fitted perfectly. This was the only
problem that I came across whilst working on this unit and it was easily and very
simply solved.

Skill development & Areas for improvement

Overall the areas that I think I can improve on is using a more of a variety of tool
especially when it comes to Photoshop I need to venture out from the basic tools
that I always seem to use and try some more different ways of getting the result
I want as this can also mean that I find a way to do something better than I was
doing before another thing I could improve on is keeping my diary up to date I
found it easier to write about some steps I was going to do and then actually do
them however there are times where I didnt go into as much detail as was
needed and I defiantly missed out some steps when writing about what I did as
well as including screenshots off my work as this was something that I also found
that I forgot to do as well as I seemed to get carried away with creating the
graphics and forgot to write about it.

Self-evaluation
My conclusion for this unit is that overall, I am proud of what I have achieved
although in some places it could do with some work. I have developed my skills
further on Photoshop. In addition, this is something that had used before and
now I have even more experience with the software however it is with the use for
creating something that I have not quite done before. This being about my fifth
time working with Photoshop but my first on make sure the sizes are so
accurate .there are things that I would do differently having known what I know
now. Overall, I am happy with the final look of my graphics and how the CD cover
and A3 poster turned out however there are certain things looking at other
people work that I feel I could have incorporated into my work.

the logo and how I want it too look also using the colours I will/ have used for the
final product and then around the edges written all about how I am going to
create the graphics and what software Im going to be using e.g. Photoshop I also
went into further detail about what font Im going to use and where I got the

The production log that I did was my dairy that I did on how I created all of
my graphics I went in to detail almost step by step on how I did so and
also included screenshots of what it was that I was doing and how it
looked different to what I had originally started with and how I am going to
make It look the way I want it too look like how I had designed it on my
storyboards. I have included some screenshot below of what my diary
looks like. This part covers how I did my logo and what I did to get my final
product. The left image also includes a bit about my poster and how I
started to create that and what I did.

Comments from peers, tutors and clients

My tutor gave me the brief as this informed me to what it was I needed to

do and also what the client wanted as well as the background behind the
assignment. I also had a client meeting this just clarified what the client
wanted along with what all of the sizes needed to be and what it is that
they would be using the final graphics for and the purpose in which they
are being created.

Production process
Pre-production
The preparation that I did for this unit was defiantly to make sure that I had an
idea for everything I wanted to do and how I wanted it to look. As I talk about in
the headings below about the panning and preparation that I did for the creation
of my graphics.

Planning

For my planning, I looked at examples and went over the assignment brief
to get a real understanding of what it is that the client wanted and then I
also decided on genre of what the pixels will be and for me it was the
genre pop punk. I did about a lot of this in my proposal and talked about
this in the concept: The pixels are a pop punk band from Manchester who
formed in 2012. I want to keep the theme of pop punk, use bright colours,
and use the songs that are featured on the CD to influence the look of the
poster and CD. I am also doing research on some bands and there album
covers for some inspiration that are of the same genre and these can be
seen below. Of course, I want everything that I do to appeal to the
demographic and to also fit with the band and what they stand for and to
make sure that it fits the look that they are going for. Some of the album
covers that I have researched do not necessary fit the vibe that I want the
album to give out. However, I can use them as inspiration on what I want
the final look to be for the A3 poster and the CD. I then went and did my
research on what it is I wanted my album cover to look like and what kind
of look I was going for. Also I have my proposal that I did this goes into
detail of the research that I did and discussing what it is that I wanted to
do for all of my graphics

Preparation

The preparation that I did for my

graphics before I did it I did my
research and then collected all
of the assets that I needed for
my graphics this includes the
reference images that I was
going to be using along with
what background colours I was
going to be using. In addition,
any other extra bits that I may
need such as my barcode for the
CD cover. Here is the evidence
of my assets that are saved in
my personal workspace. I also
had my ILP as this gave me a start and end date in which I needed to get
everything complete by.
Production
Time management & Project
management
I personally think that I handled my time
very well and completed the assignment
in time and handed it all in. I mainly
used my ILP to keep track of what it is
that I did and what it was that I had to
do next. It also helper to put into
perspective how long I had to do all of
my work. The ILP also links in with the
project management, as aging this was
important for me keeping up with the
work and what I needed to do.

Monitoring work in progress

Again this is also fitting in with the ILP on what it is that I needed to do and how I
did it and what look I was going for from the very beginning. The assignment
brief also fitted with this and I also had a checklist to make sure that I new
everything that needed to be handed in and what it was that I was working
towards as this unit was more than the documents of what I was creating and
then the documents of what I had actually created it get me an opportunity to be
more organised and also get a better understanding of the amount of work that
goes into all go the creating process

Technical competencies
I have improved my skills by further using the software and getting more and
more familiar with it along with this assignment I paid a lot more attention to
detail and also did more finer work that I have done before. This included with
me playing around with the different brushes and finding what works and what
looks good with the layout and scheme that I had already had going on.

Creative ability
Even though my own Creative ability is limed I am happy with what I have finally
produces and with the inspiration of other album I have come up with a very
different and what I feel is unique look album cover that is also fitting to the
purpose. my work as I that it all works together and looks good. All of the colours
work together and are fitting with the purpose that it has of attracting people to
the band. They are also fitting to the look of the genre. Starting with the CD
album, I will of course be including the name of the band and the list of songs
that are featured on this album this is of course so people know whom it is by
and what they are listening to. The record label and copy right as these are two
very impotent things that I need to include for legal reasons.
Own work
I am happy with the final work that I had produced and Im happy with the look I
think it also gives off the vibes that I want it too that I feel are that all of the
graphics that I have created are fitting with the music and are suitable to the
target audience. That they are fitting with the fact that both the CD cover and
poster where made to sell and attract attention to the pixels and I do feel that
thats what they do especially with the different/ unusual artwork that I have
incorporated with the look of the band.

Compared with original intentions
Compared with what I had come up with what I had original planned for the CD
cover, logo and poster there isnt any difference other than the main writing on
both the CD cover and the poster on the storyboards are black and then I later in
decided that white would be easier to read as of course that is a very important
factor, another thing I changed was the font on both the posted and the back of
the CD cover as I felt that it was more important for people to be able to actually
read them rather then it all look good even though I do defiantly think the new
fonts are still fitting. Apart from that, they are the only two things that I actually
change from the original to my finished product.

Appropriateness to audience
I am have done research on some bands and there album covers for some
inspiration that are of the same genre. Of course, I want everything that I do to
appeal to the demographic and to also fit with the band and what they stand for
and to make sure that it fits the look that they are going for. Some of the album
covers that I have researched do not necessary fit the vibe that I want the album
to give out. However, I have use them as inspiration on what I want the final look
to be for the A3 poster and the CD. As I wanted a certain look that also fits with
the vibe of the music and I do really think that I have achieved this.

Technical qualities
The technical qualities that I used where when it come to the use of the software
that I needed to use to created my graphics I did this on software such as
Photoshop, this pieces of software I had used before and already have some
skills in but I would definably say that I was more commutable using Photoshop
than I have been using it before as now I do feel as if I have more experience
with it and also feel more commutable with that software even though I had used
the software before I was still unsure with some things but re using it again did
defiantly really help and by the second graphics I was constable with Photoshop
and I defiantly know the basics.

Aesthetic qualities
The aesthetic qualities that my work as I that it all works together and looks
good. All of the colours work together and are fitting with the purpose that it has
of attracting people to the band. They are also fitting to the look of the genre.
Starting with the CD album, I will of course be including the name of the band
and the list of songs that are featured on this album this is of course so people
know whom it is by and what they are listening to. The record label and copy
right as these are two very impotent things that I need to include for legal
reasons. A barcode as this is need so that are people are actually able to by the
album. I will also include the social media of the band on the album cover as this
is going to help get them more publicity and hopefully contribute to the growth
of the band and help to get them better known. Of course seen as it is an album I
will be including some album artwork of the band as this is normally what is
going to attract the attention of the album to byers that may not have heard of
the band before and are just looking to pick up an album as if they like the
artwork that are more likely to listen or buy the bands album. Finally, of course I
am going to include the logo of the band on the album as this is going to be a
recognisable feature for many people. Below I am going to include some
examples of a bands logo. I will also be including the same for my poster
however, the poster will be more basic that the CD cover but I will be keeping to
the same colours that I have been using for the CD cover. Again, the poster will
include the band name tour dates and locations along with social media and
where you are able to purchase the tickets by keeping the poster basic it makes
it easier for people to read and actually find out the information that they need
to know.

Content & style

This is actually the reference that I used for what I wanted my CD cover too look
like and where I got my inspiration from of what I wanted the CD cover and the
poster to look like.

The artwork was created by Ricardo Cavolo. Barlow wanted the

cover art to have a "really hand-drawn feel" to it and be "totally
unlike any other artwork that's going on in the scene."] The Devil
depicted in the bottom-left handed cover is a comment on how a
person should be making sure to not let the Devil on your
shoulder win. Some of the items featured on the cover have been
coincidences in relation to the lyrics as Cavolo made the art
without hearing the album. For example, one of the songs on the
album is titled "Serpents" and the art features snakes. Barlow
and Cavolo created a comic book based on the artwork that
includes lyrics from the album turned into the comic's story. The
comic book was made available through pre-orders. The story
features a character called June "who faces all these obstacles
throughout his life". June's goal is to reach a house on a hill in
spite of all the problems that might arise. Barlow claims that this
is a metaphor "for the idea of always persevering and trying your
best", a concept which is featured in the album. The album
comes in a cardboard gatefold sleeve
I feel as if this is the best way to explain what the style looks like and what it is I
wanted to go for something different and also a hand drawn look like is stated in
the quote. The content that I have included is all-standard for what I what it is
that I needed to use to meet the assignment brief such as the basic information
that is need on a CD e.g. band name , album name, tracks included, legal copy
write. I also included some more information such as social media and who is in
the band this was also the same with the poster. Include ding all of the
information that is essential such as the locations of the tour and the band name
also social media and where you are able to buy the tickets.
