Mycoplasma synoviae - Prevalence often is high

Causal relation between EAA and Ms
There seem to be different strains of Ms with different tissue
tropism ( oviduct, trachea and joints)
Economical damage in breeders and layers is important
Reduced egg weight and egg shell quality, hence hatchability (5-10
eggs/HH)
Vertical transmission to offspring
Good prevention of other pathogens that affect the
reproductive tract will minimize EAA
Antibiotic treatment can reduce EAA but relapses occur
Prevention: MSH vaccine is available in EU

Not possible to make general recommendations for drug of
choice for ORT
Huge variation of sensitivity profile between regions (intensive
poultry area versus less intensive)
For each veterinarian/group of farms, a formularium should be
made based on MIC or antibiogram data, involving all AB
available
