k. Exit ticket (A piece of paper with questions for each student)

Procedures:

l. Have food already proportioned out for students in bowls ready for

there is enough for each student that will be at the table)

m. Have students come directly to carpet or whole group area

n. Have students watch video on the different food groups

i. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9ymkJK2QCU (4 minutes

long)

o. As the video plays write the food groups mentioned on the board

i. Fruits, Grains, Vegetables, Proteins, Dairy

p. Three minutes into the video kids will be able to identify which groups

foods belong to. Take the time to pause the video and allow the students to

answer the question before the video gives the answer away. Give every

student a white board or something to write their answer on and have them

hold it up when they finish so they can check their answer with the video.

If students incorrectly answer the question briefly pause and explain why

the food belongs to that group.

measurement. Add an area where they write two facts they learned about

nutrition and two benefits of exercise combined with a healthy diet

EXIT TICKET

Name:

Date:

Word bank: Grain, Fruit, Vegetables, Protein, Dairy

Include 5 pictures of food, one belonging to each food group. Have students write the

food group that the food belongs to next to the picture.

Class organization: The first 10 minutes of the lesson will be whole group where they

all are seated on the carpet or whole group area where they can see the video being

projected. The last 10- 15 minutes of the lesson will be done at students tables where they

work together but make their own individual snacks.

Evaluation: After watching the video you will be able to assess how much students have

learned from the video by having them answer on their own individual dry erase board

what group each food they are presented belongs in. At the end of the lesson have

students complete an exit ticket independently. The exit ticket will evaluate if students

can identify which group food items belong to along with two facts they learned about

nutrition and the benefits of combing a healthy diet with exercise. As a visual assessment

you will be able to see how well students work with measurements as you walk around

class and watch them prepare their individual snacks.

Modifications: If students were unable to use their arms for measuring the amount

needed for each ingredient then partner them with someone and have them tell the student

which measuring cup to use for each ingredient and how many scopes to put in. If a child

is unable to use the dry erase board for communicating their answer extend whole group

time and set up the room into five sections label each food group as A-E and then have

students go to the area designated for the food group they think the food belongs too. But

in this case I believe the student would have someone who would work one on one with

him who could whisper his answer to said person and have them write the answer on the

board.

Any food allergies that are present should be documented so you can change the

recipe to something that wouldnt harm a students. Or leave a certain ingredient

out of the recipe when that student makes it possibly use a substitution.
