The regulations of the election have changed throughout history. As the country has
changed, the election process has changed right along with it, and it is very different than in the
past. To begin the election process, primary elections are held to narrow down the candidates.
Along with this, there are delegates who are chosen to vote for a specific political party.
Depending on how many states the candidate wins, he or she will receive more delegates to vote
for them at the party convention. There are also caucuses which are less secretive and are used
more in rural states to choose their representative. These primaries were never a part of the
election process until the 20th century. They were created as an attempt to give the public a
larger role in choosing their representative, but delegates were not required to vote for their
candidate. During the 20th century, delegates votes were traded with party bosses and made the
public votes useless. This angered Americans and they demanded a more clear system for the
election. Today, party conventions are more open to the public and the act of buying votes has
decreased. These conventions let the public know which candidate will be representing each
party in the upcoming election. Usually during the party convention, this decision is very easy
and the public vote matches the delegates, but other times it is not that easy. If the popular vote
comes too close, there will be a second delegate vote where they are not required to vote for
whom they originally chose. After each party's nominees have been selected, they begin
campaigning and preparing for the election. Their goal is to convince and persuade the public
that they are the best fit for President of the United States. Their success in their campaign will
be determined on election day which is always the first Tuesday after the first Monday of
November. During the final vote, the public will vote for whom them think the best president
will be, but the Electoral College also has a role in the election. The number of electors in the
Electoral College is determined by the number of representatives that each state has in both
houses of Congress. The Electoral College was created in the past when most Americans were
illiterate to make sure that the election was fair. The Electoral College today seems unnecessary,
but we continue to use it even though it seems to take away the voice of the public in the
election. All in all, the election process has changed as it was needed throughout history.
This article was very interesting to read. I was not very familiar with the election process
before reading it and it definitely helped me better understand everything. During this past
election, I did not really understand what was happening and what all the terms that were used
meant. Some things that I did not understand were the delegates and the Electoral College. I
have always heard these terms and I knew that they were an important part of the election
process, but I was not sure what exactly they meant. To conclude, this article was very
