Learning Standard(s)/Outcome(s)/Objective(s):
We are learning to collect data about students favourite colour and then answer questions that relate to
the information that was collected.

At the conclusion of this lesson, the students will know/understand that:


Data can be collected from students and then be collated to create a graph.
They can then use the graph to analyse and answer questions that directly relate to the information
provided.

At the conclusion of this lesson, the students will demonstrate the skills/strategies of:
Data collecting skills.
Become aware that data can be translated and organised into a graph.
Analyse the graphs and answer corresponding questions.

Assessment:
Formative and Summative assessment; observe students whilst they are collecting data and answering
subsequent questions. Correct their worksheets.

Assessment criteria for analysis:


Appropriate contribution to data collection and discussion.
Use of accrued knowledge to answer worksheet questions accurately.

Teaching focus:

B. teaching skills that the pre-service teacher would like to personally develop.

Lesson content:
A. Introduction 5 mins
Introduce the concept of graphs
Ask students what they think a graph is
Where have they seen graphs before, what are they used for
Introduce the concept of collecting information

B. Development 10-15 mins


As a class collect data about students favourite colour (using website)
Come up with parameters for students to choose from
Plot the information on the graph
After collecting the data, have the students answer questions that relate to the questions on
the worksheet ie how many people like blue? etc

C. Consolidation, practice, extension 5-10 mins


Students are to complete questions on worksheet that relate to interpreting data about
favourite pets.

D. Closure 5 mins
Correct work
Share something they have learnt
