Generally lots and lots and lots of cross questions, some of them based on shipboard operations
and maitenances, so just keeps on refreshing onboard activities, he mostly not so interest in what
you have known, if you shown any aspects that not so familiar with, then will dig very deep.
1. EGE:
- Crew neglections which causing EGE faults, I explained mainly in two aspects, one is boiler
water treatment, the other is lack or improper maintenance of combustion equipments causing
soot accumulating, like FO quality control, injector, exhaust valve, TC, liner and piston ring
wear, cylinder LO timing and quantity, EGE water washing or soot blowing action etc.
- then whichever you mentioned, mostly there is a cross question, like FO injection pressure and
testing, TC performance, unit overhaul, i mentioned FO in bad quality, then ask about FO
sampling, how many samples u collect, and BDN.
- How to check and identify the EGE faults: enclosed space entry, permit to work, stop
circulating pump, then check
- How to repair the tube leak or if can not repair the leak, what is your action, leading to EGE dry
run procedures and precautions
2. Certificates carried onboard and their validity, any supplementary, windows period, then lead
to following
- SOPEP manual, stamped first page, contents, procedures, please mention SOPEP is for shore
people use, SOPEP locker content and checks, frequency and responsible person for this
- MLC and DMLC
- IOPP then OWS
- ISPP then sewage treatment plant
3. pay attention to types of your last ship, mostly the load line survey will as per your last ship
- scope and survey period
- certificate, ILLC, stability and incline test, 3 certificate in 1 form
-purpose of LL survey
-procedures, i mentioned about superstructure, deck, engine room and duct keel,
- before you answering any question, mention the safety measures first
- cross questions about: weather tight and water tight, hatch cover weather tight check, air vent
check, emergency bilge testing, sprinker testing, EEBD, fire fighting appliances, duct keel what
u check,
4. Thats all i can remember so far, not so many subjects, but for each one going very deep, from
0825 to 1245. try to answer all the questions as a CE, more assertive.
5. As he is more interest with my answers for normal questions, and also no more time, so no
drawing.( i guess because in the beginning, he asked about how long have you prepared for oral,
i said in the past two years, i studied whenever i got time, especially drawings).

Hi everybody, today was my class 1 oral first attempt with Mr David and passed, questions in
detail are
1, draw and explain 440 volt distribution system to busbar and then to motors
2, write down and explain loadline survey in detail,
3, write and explain MLC in detail, DMLC in detail. DMLC have two parts. Part 1 is prepared by
flag state according to code of ILO and part 2 is prepared by owner and owner hire a MLC
auditor approved by flag state will inspect ship and issue interim certificate valid for six months.
After six months inspection if found no deficiency will issue five year certificate.
4, draw and explain bulk carrier midship section, lightening hole purpose, fish plate
5, draw and explain sewage treatment plant, with annex 4 requirements, Specialy shore
connection for sewage dimensions.
6, draw and explain oily water separator operation.
He asked only six questions but went in detail on MLC and sewage plant. On ship we have three
shore connection go through all. Sludge and bilge water connection, sewage shore connection,
international shore connection for fire line. Pumping rate should be written on sewage plant as
well as holding tk, what port state check on sewage plant.

cigarrette smoke. wants to hear abt using smoke spray.
7. STP c/s and how will u convince PSC that your STP is working efficiently? he wants to hear
more about blower and air lift. if the blower is under repair you can make temporary
arrangements with control air but he wants to hear that u must inform class society & take class
exemption. he detained some ships due to this. Sewage holding tank must have copy of class
certificate pasted on bulkhead mentioning capacity & discharge rate.

Hi everyone. I have passed Class 2 MEO aural exam under Mr.Husain on 22nd of October 2015.
Following are the questions he has asked me, in as much detail as I can remember:
1. Troubleshooting - write down the steps you will follow as 2/E if M/E RPM is not rising.
2. ECA entry procedure write down and explain.
3. Plunger controlled and valve controlled fuel pump draw and explain the working. For plunger
controlled, he asked me to mark with red pen the position of the top of the plunger at its highest
position and the again its position at its lowest position.
4. Hull loading diagram (indicative of hull fouling etc draw and explain)
5. Overhead Crane circuit diagram draw and explain.
6. ACB, and Reverse power, Overcurrent and Undervoltage protection draw and explain
7. Boiler safety valve draw and explain procedure for boiler safety valve setting.
8. Viscotherm double element control, draw and explain.
9. Remote sensors for - Pressure (this one I was unsure of, didn't see the diagram anywhere),
level, temperature and flow. Explain each.

I tried to explain drydocking procedure and preparation but he was not interested and asked me
only about Electrical Items. He also wants to hear about some electrical 5 yearly survey items
that you will put in drydock, and I think he wants to hear about High Voltage items.

Systems and components for windlass and mooring winch
Pump and motor systems are used for powering deck machinery such as winches and windlasses.
Pump and actuating cylinders are normally employed for hatch covers. One or more pumps will
be used to supply the volume of fluid at the pressure required to operate one or more motors.
Pumps may be classified into two groups:
1 those with a fixed delivery when running at a given speed;
2 those with a variable delivery at a given speed.
Fixed delivery pumps can have their constant output bypassed via control valves until required or
output can be matched to requirements by incorporating a relief/accumulator, then stopping and
starting, varying speed, or connecting a variable delivery pump in parallel. Variable delivery
pump output can be controlled to give full flow in either direction, and volume output can be
varied from maximum down to zero.
Fixed delivery pumps
Constant output pumps of the gear or lobe type (see Chapter 5) are precision made to provide
high pressure with minimum back leakage. The former operate on the principle that as gears
revolve, fluid is carried around the outside
t. For general hydraulic systems where the pump delivers a constant volume of oil, speed control
of the hydraulic motor can be obtained by delivering the required amount of oil to the motor
through a control valve and diverting the remainder through a bypass to the pump suction.
