D.H Lawrence Woman In Love Criticism Analysis.

British! British! British! D.H Lawrence was a british author that was ahead of his time.

Some of his books were not allowed to be published in america until years after because people

believed they were too graphic or sexual. One of these books is the Woman In Love. In this

book he used graphic writing along with war elements but not actual having the war interacted in

his novels. In the 1900s women were getting more rights, cutting their hair, wearing shorter

dress, and even becoming more of the work force. In this literary analysis I will discuss how the

book relates to Lawrence in a physical way along with historical events.

First off, to understand why Lawrences writing as an author was much different from

other authors, why his writing was impacted by the culture of the time period, and his

understanding of the physically that was used in his novels, you have to understand the life of

Lawrence. Lawrence was born September 11, 1885 in Nottinghamshire, England. Lawrence was

raised in the working class. His mother was previously a part of the middle class but her

station dropped when her family was not longer financially stable. Because of this, she had

high hopes for her son Lawrence to make his way back to the middle class. Just like his mother,

he fell in love with books and writing. When he was in college Lawrence won a short story

competition. After he got his teaching certificate, in 1908 Lawrence took a teach position in

London. While he was teaching he still continued to write. As he got better and recognized

Lawrence quit his job as a teacher and focused on his writing career. In his life Lawrence had a
Gilbert 2

lot of love affairs which you can see in his writing. He was engaged but broke it off after he

convinced a married women to leave her family and run off with him. This is one of the many

affairs he had in his life.

Secondly, in 1915 Lawrence published a novel call Rainbow. Rainbow is consider the

first half of Women In Love. These novels were considered very sexual for its time period. These

books are about two women Gudrun and Ursula Brangwen. Both fall in love:; Ursula the older

sister with Rupert Birkin and Gudrun the younger sister with Gerald Crich. These women are

strong and independent which in new to a lot of books around this age. You also have lovers that

is not normal in novel.

Finally,

In conclusion, D.H Lawrence was a great british novelist in the 1900s. Is novel Women

In Love was one in many to change everything that was one was unwritten.

This is not an analysis essay at all. There's barely a mention about the book. I'm not sure which
theory you're using or how all of the information about his life fits into the essay. It seems like
filler. It is clear based on this and your essay sketch that you did not read the book. Furthermore,
there are no citations or a works cited page for the researched information. This is plagiarism. I
know it's the end of the year, but I am completely baffled that you would think it would be
appropriate to turn in a paper like this. If you were to do something like this next year in college
you would not only fail the assignment, you would face failing the class. You know better.
