 Background to the Inanda Heritage Route
o Inanda is an area 15km outside the City of Durban.
o It is home to key epochs of the South African cultural and political
landscape with heritage sites that mark a living heritage of several
legends.
o One of the well known is Dr. J L Dube, the founder of the Native
Congress, the present day ANC. As a symbolic gesture President
Nelson Mandela chose to cast his vote in the historic 1994 elections.
o Mahatma Gandhi, international icon settled at Inanda .
o Prophet Isaiah Shembe contributed to the rise of African Independent
Churches.
o Inanda Seminary old school for girls.
