The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5791 held its Annual Loyalty Day Award Program at the post hall
on May 5 to recognize those who show patriotism and heroism.
Loyalty Day is observed each year on May 1 in the United States. This day was set aside to reaffirm
loyalty to the country and for the recognition of the heritage of Americas freedom. The United States
Congress made the official holiday on July 18, 1958. The first official observance of Loyalty Day was
proclaimed on May 1, 1959, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Loyalty Day is not recognized as a

The farm day was happening

Technical Center at Alvirne
were on display. In the barn
were chickens, rabbits and
piglets. Sheep and goats were
on display, and all could be
touched except for the piglets as
they are not really domesticated
and would cry (think of the
word scream - the piglets not
the children) and squirm if folks
tried to hold them. If one got
away there would be no telling
how long it would take to
catch. The baby animals were a
collection from local farms and
4H groups who brought their
fur babies to the farm day.
