A Chatham Albatross was photographed 57 nautical miles off Tacna in June 2008, representing the southernmost record for this species. Additionally, a dead Waved Albatross was found at Ite wetlands in February 2009, also constituting a rare southern record. Both species are globally threatened. Fishermen have occasionally reported sightings of Waved Albatross further south than previously documented, expanding the known range of these rare albatrosses.
