ABSTRACT

Saving is defined as an amount of something that is not spent or used. Attitudes is

defined as a feeling or way of thinking that affects a persons behavior. This study is not

just about attitudes being obtained or manifested towards saving but also the problems

being identified and encountered. Problem is defined as something that is difficult to deal

with and it is often a source of trouble. This study aims to determine the attitudes and

problems of Saint Marys University Senior High School students towards saving. This

study used descriptive method. Survey questionnaires were used to gather data from

random sample of senior high school students of Saint Marys University. The descriptive

data will now be used to analyze the result.

The result shows different attitudes and problems, respectively. Some of the

attitudes are resourcefulness, wise budgeting, and obsessive need to save. While some of

the problems are having not enough allowance, a lot of expenses, spending and budgeting

problems. Most of the respondents are tactful in saving wherein if they dont have enough

allowance to save, they wont sacrifice their health instead they will schedule their saving

when they have enough allowance to save and will strictly budget allowance. But, some

of the respondents will still sacrifice their health in not eating and will ask money from

their parents wherein they manifest one of the factors stated by Yamauchi et al.(1982),

the obsessive need to save. Furthermore, the study revealed how proper financial

management occur between students.
