MARINERS RECALL LHP ZAC CURTIS FROM AA ARKANSAS


RHP Dan Altavilla optioned to AAA Tacoma.
TORONTO, Ontario, Canada Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations
Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

Zac Curtis, LHP, recalled from AA Arkansas.


Dan Altavilla, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 5/10).

Curtis (#62) will be in uniform and available for todays (4:07 pm PT) game at the Toronto Blue Jays.

Curtis, 24 (turns 25 on July 4), 0-1 with 3 saves and a 3.21 ERA (5 ER, 14.0 IP) with 13 strikeouts and 4 walks in 10 relief
appearances with AA Arkansas this season. The 5-foot-9, 192-pound left-hander has recorded 2 strikeouts in 5 of his 10
outings and has worked more than 1.0 inning in 7-of-his-10 appearances, including 2 outings of 2.0 innings apiece. He has
allowed only 1 extra-base hit this season, while holding left-handed batters to a .176 (3x17) average and right-handed
batters to 6 hits in 34 at-bats (.176).

Curtis was acquired from Arizona along with INF Jean Segura and OF Mitch Haniger in exchange for RHP Taijuan Walker
and INF Ketel Marte on Nov. 23, 2016. He made his Major League debut with the Diamondbacks last season on April 30
vs. Colorado and went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (10 ER, 13.1 IP) with 10 strikeouts and 13 walks in 21 games with Arizona. He
held opponents scoreless in 14-of-21 games, including not allowing a run over his first 10 outings (8.1 IP), April 30-May30.

The native of Panama City Beach, FL, was originally selected by the Diamondbacks in the 6th round of the 2014 MLB First-
Year Player Draft out of Middle Tennessee State University. In parts of 4 minor league seasons with Arizona (2014-16) and
Seattle (2017), he has compiled a career record of 7-7 with 56 saves and a 2.09 ERA (29 ER, 125.0 IP). Curtis has averaged
13.10 strikeouts-per-9.0-innings (182 K, 125.0 IP) in 114 career minor league games. Since his debut season of 2014,
Curtis 56 saves are 8th-most among all minor leaguers.

Altavilla, 24 (turns 25 on Sept. 8), appeared in 3 games with the Mariners after being recalled from AAA Tacoma on May
6, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits (1 home run) and 1 walk while striking out 4 in 3.0 innings of work over 3 outings. He gave up 1
run on 3 hits and 1 walk with 1 strikeout in 1.0 inning pitched yesterday (5/10) at Philadelphia. Overall, he is 1-1 with a 6.97
ERA (8 ER, 10.1 IP) with 14 strikeouts and 7 walks in 12 games with the Mariners this season. Altavilla was named to his
first career Opening Day roster on April 2 and went 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA (6 ER, 7.1 IP) with 10 strikeouts and 6 walks in his
9 relief appearances (4/4-20) with the Mariners this season. He earned his first career Major League win on April 6 at
Houston, striking out 3 while giving up 1 hit in 1.0 scoreless inning of work. Altavilla was originally optioned to AAA Tacoma
on April 21. Prior to his recall, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound right-hander made 4 relief appearances with the Rainiers, posting
a 3.18 ERA (2 ER, 5.2 IP) with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks with Tacoma.

The native of McKeesport, PA, made his Major League debut with Seattle last season, posting 15 scoreless appearances
(12.1 IP) while striking out 10 and walking 1. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 5th round of the 2014 MLB
First-Year Player Draft out of Mercyhurst (PA) College. In parts of 4 minor league seasons with Seattle (2014-17), Altavilla
is 18-18 with 16 saves and a 3.68 ERA (113 ER, 276.2 IP) with 272 strikeouts and 109 walks in 89 appearances (42 starts).
