The Prayer of Hezekiah

Isaiah 38:1-7

1 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of
Amoz went to him and said, This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you
are going to die; you will not recover.
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,
3 Remember, LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion
and have done what is good in your eyes. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah:
5 Go and tell Hezekiah, This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have
heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.
6 And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this
city.

Reaching a Dead End

1. God allows certain trials to break us so that he can examine us

Example: Doctors doing a biopsy

- Set your house into order, means give your last orders or last will and
testament or do what you need to do

Implication: He humbled Himself

His Response: He acknowledged Gods sovereignty that is why he made an appeal

In relation today: You may have a gigantic problem today, but remember God wants
to know if He is really the God of your life.

Parallel Verse:

2 Corinthians 12:9 My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in
weakness.
2. God allows circumstances to check our personal response

Implication: God wants to check your attitude towards Him.

His Response: He turned against the wall, prayed and wept bitterly.

The Lords response: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears.

- God saw the undivided heart of Hezekiah. His sincerity and humility.

In relation Today: when we are at the point of dead end, God wants us to be sincere
and undivided to Him. He wants a pure and desperate heart to appeal to Him.
