Step 0. Suggested Exercise Steps

Suggested Exercise Steps


1. Start MSC.Patran and create a new database unit.db.
2. Create geometry 1/4 of the plate(2X2m) using a surface.

3. Mesh the surface using Quad4 elements.

4. Apply a force at right edge of the plate

5. Create a constraint at opposite end from force, fixing all six


degrees of freedom.
6. Create an Mild Steel material with Elastic Modulus of 2.06E7 and
Poisson ratio of 0.29.
7. Assign Steel as the property of the plate with a thickness of 0.01 m.

8. Verify all Loads and BCs to make sure that they are all selected.

9. Run a linear static analysis of the model.

10. Read results by attaching the .xdb file.

11. Plot the results by creating a Quick Plot.


12. Verify the input data of the material by the results

Create a new database.


1. File / New.
2. Enter Unit as the file name.
3. Click OK.
4. Choose Default Tolerance. e
5. Select MSC.Nastran as the

1. Derive the Elastic Modulus


From Elastic theory, = E

2. Derive Poisson Ratio
From the deformations of x and y direction,

= 0.301

3. Check the material values
