Essay 4 Revision

Imagine that you are at home relaxing after a long day at work. You decide to run

yourself a nice warm bath and play some music because you feel as if you deserve it after the

day you had. You walk into your bedroom and open the blinds and see a drone just in front of

your window; invading your privacy. Being able to have privacy is a very valuable thing and

makes you feel safe. While reading the article about drones being able to fly over an individuals

property in order to make them feel protected kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I believe that

people should be able to prevent drones from flying over their property because I believe its an

invasion of privacy, a concern of an individuals safety, and can bring around other issues.

Throughout the reading of the article, it seems as if drones are starting to become the next

big thing when it comes to protecting the citizens of the U.S. However, there are many things

that would be a concern to me. According to the article, drones are starting to be used more by

the U.S government so much that the Federal Aviation Administration believes the sales for this

technological device is going to spike up in sales by the year of 2020. When it comes to the use

of drones, there are some concerns I have about them. Those being safety, privacy, and bringing

around more mental issues. The first problem that I have concerns about is safety. Almost

everyone knows exactly what drones are. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, drones can

be defined as an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers.

Safety is a huge concern when it comes to this topic because these are basically machines flying
in the air. We dont know much behind them or what they are capable of. For all we know, these

machines can have weapons on them without our knowing. Along with that, technical difficulties

occur a lot when it comes to technology. These drones are in the air and if something goes

wrong, they could create a bigger issue and anyone could be affected by whatever happens due to

the drone not functioning properly.

Another reason why drones should be prevented is privacy. As stated by A. Michael

Froomkin, having the such things being allowed to be around violates and destroys the Fourth

Amendment rights. Giving the accessibility to allow drones to be any lower to the point where

they invade an individuals right to have privacy, takes away the feeling of being protected and

not worrying whether something terrible could happen to them or their loved ones.
