Loop Heat Pipes are passive two-phase cooling system where heat is removed from high
temperature external components by the devices evaporator section. The evaporator contains a
porous wick to deliver cooling liquid to surfaces where it is vaporized, vapor is condensed in a
condenser, and capillary pressure that develops in the evaporators wick drives the liquid and vapor
flows. In a mechanically pumped Loop Heat Pipe a mechanical pump is added after the condenser
which proides many advantages. Thermal and hydrodynamic mechanisams are highly coupled in
these sytems. However, effect of many indiviual parameters over heat transfer and flow phenomena
inside the evaporator wick is unknown. We developed a Computational Fluid Dynamics model to
study the evaporator wick. Pure water was used as the working fluid. The effect of applied heat
flux, liquid mass flow rate, wick porosity, wick permeability, wick material thermal conductivity,
and value of gravitational acceleration on overall performance of the system was analyzed. The
results illustrate well effect of each parameter on overall system performance, and flow patterns of
multiphase working fluid inside the porous wick. The operating temperature was linear with applied
heat flux, and the evapoator was flooded with liquid water at low heat fluxes. Some design
recommendations also was made to fabricate wick of such a system for any precious thermal
management application. This study will facilate fabrifation and optimization of mechanically
pumped Loop Heat pipe evaporaor. (max 250 words)
